The roof line of the Tempe Center for the Arts is all odd angles and intersecting planes. The design was supposedly inspired by stealth fighter planes when the architects were looking for ways to dampen the noise from the planes overhead in the flight path to Sky Harbor Airport. The theaters are covered by an internal concrete dome that takes care of any sound that isn't deflected by the roof.
