I was still weeding near noon when I looked up and saw the bud had opened. The other flowers I found opened this evening.
Went to Dolly Sods yesterday for a photoshoot of the Milky Way but the weather was not about to cooperate. It was beautiful while I was solitarily hiking, but after I finished a storm was brewing. it hasn't rained in a month here but yesterday the floodgates opened. I wasn't very disappointed because it's close enough for me to go back, and I finally got to hike Bear Rocks. I climbed all over those rocks like a little kid. The views are breathtaking. If you zoom in on the background, you can see two mountain ridges with windmills.
Even tho we are in a severe drought at the moment (no significant rainfall in a month), there was still a little water at the falls. We could hear the water before we could see it. Many steps down to the all but dry creek bed at the bottom of the mountain. Best thing was we were the only ones there. We were able to let the dogs off their leashes and they enjoyed cooling down in the pool of water at the base of the falls. We will come back after a thunderstorm. It was spectacular with just a trickle. I'm sure it's magnificent when it's full of running water.
