The 9th Annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party took place in Madison Square Park June 11-12, 2011. The weekend-long event occurs every June and brings together the country’s top pitmasters who cook up their award-winning food for over a 100,000 barbecue enthusiasts.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Madison Square Park, the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party attracts people from near and far to sustain and celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions.
Scott's Bar-B-Que was founded in 1972 by Ella and Roosevelt "Rosie" Scott in Hemingway, SC. Rosie's uncle taught him the downhome technique of slow cooking whole hogs over a wood-burning pit. The community just couldn't get enough of Rosie's barbecue. After hand crafting his own barbecue pits, Rosie Scott has spent all of his adult life serving some of the best barbecue the Carolinas have to offer.
Today the legacy continues with Rosie, Ella, and their son Rodney. Rodney Scott cooked his first hog when he was just eleven. Now, about 30 years later Rodney serves as the Pitmaster at Scott's Bar-B-Que. Rodney is proud to tell the family's barbecue secret, "we put a whole lot of love into what we do." And indeed it's true. Critics have been raving about the authenticity of Scott's Bar-B-Que for decades. It's not just the barbecue, but it's that old fashioned, "mom & pop" feel you get.

Marlowe’s Ribs & Restaurant was founded in 1974 by Tony and Lucy Gigliotti, who moved from Pittsburgh to Memphis. They named the restaurant after their daughter Marlo. The restaurant started as the Whitehaven Ranch House, serving steaks and burgers, but later switched to barbecue after Tony learned the art of smoking meats from a local pitmaster. The restaurant is located near Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home, and has a collection of Elvis memorabilia and a free pink limo service for guests staying at nearby hotels.

We were one of 4 teams invited to cook at Grazefest 2004. Day two featured “From the Pasture to the Pit: Southern BBQ with Pasture-Raised Meats,” bringing together the south’s most acclaimed pitmasters, who cooked up grass-fed meats and talking about the influence of pasture-raised foods on barbecued foods One of the primary sponsors of this even was Teddy Gentry of the World famous musical group Alabama
