Walking along the Thames Embankment one day I came across this truncated lamp post. Odd. But look closely and you'll see a vent where the light should be. This is the work of Sir Joseph Bazalgette and Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, the engineers who sorted The Great Stink of 1858. This pipe vents the explosive gases from the sewer that runs just below. Usually these pipes are much taller.
I have had very little time for Flickr of late and very little inspiration to get up on a morning for golden hour light. I've still be out and about with my camera but the light and colour palet this time of year doesn't particularly inspire me. Anyway this is a shot from a few months ago taken on Chemical beach. I hope you are all well.
In the parish church of Breitensee, which is a neighbourhood of Penzing, the 14th district of Vienna.
The church was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1896 to 1898 according to plans by the Breitensee master builder Ludwig Zatzka and consecrated on October 8, 1898, in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Breitensee had been part of Vienna since 1892.
The organ was built at the same time as the church in 1898 by the court organ builder Josef Mauracher from the Austrian organ building family of the same name. It was donated by Ludwig Zatzka and his wife Maria on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph, which is commemorated by a large inscription in the center of the organ case.

Macro Mondays theme : Copper
For this week theme I thought it would be “fitting” to use these three copper pipe fittings. 😊
The length of the part on the forefront is 1 ¼” and the longest in the background 1 ¾”.

I decided, some time ago to photograph that disappearing breed of chaps - the pipe smoker. I didn’t post this shot when I first took it in the hope that I would have others to go with it. Alas, I spotted no other pipe smokers around the town, or indeed, anywhere else. We chatted for a little while, talking of our memories of various pipe smokers in our lives. My grandfather always smoked a pipe, and as a kid most of our school bus drivers smoked pipes! Different times!
He had been smoking a pipe since he was a young man. Nowadays you never see young people with a pipe, it’s all vaping. We both agreed that we’d far rather the aroma of a fine pipe tobacco to some of the sickly sweet steam that wafts, in great clouds from the average “vaper” in the street.
In one of the older parts of the sprawling Royal London Hospital estate, this girder carries piping across Pasteur Street. The building dated 1926 today houses the Grahame Hayton Unit.
There are plans for this part of the hospital precinct to be redeveloped and renamed Turner Yard.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.
Yesterday being my second brief street shoot in Glasgow post-lockdown. I note that it appears to be mostly men that don't understand how face masks work. I also witnessed handshaking businessmen, children picking their nose and wiping it on train seats without their parents saying a thing and a man pulling down his mask to spit on the street. Those two things would be gross outside of a pandemic never mind during one. I bleached my shoes and burnt my clothes when I got home. ;)

In the park I walk every day there is a water pipe. Over the years great quantities of moss has grown. I have taken many pictures of this, but none looked good until I stuffed a Nikon speedlight up the pipe under exposed the shot and triggered the strobe.
This is starting to become a series of photos :) - this was taken in an overflow system beneath a bellmouth overflow of a tributary to a reservoir. It's coloured with light painting. Whenever I show my daughter these photos she wants me to take her where the colours are and I have to explain they don't quite look like that in real life.

For those who don’t understand urdu – it just about my eid dress.
A long blue lead pipe sticking out of a drain, beside a multi-storey carpark. I've got Cluedo on my mind, which is why I am assuming that the pipe is made of lead.
I mentioned to a friend who lectures at Aberystwyth University that I was on the lookout for pipe smokers to photograph, and by the end of the same day she sent me a message to say that she had just found “a lovely lass who smokes a pipe”. And there was me thinking it would be some time before I encountered a lady pipe smoker. This is Saf, a first year Computing student from Pembrokeshire who’s been a pipe smoker since her father bought her a pipe when she was 20. It’s a father-daughter thing, as it seems most of the rest of the family aren’t keen at all.
We chatted a while as I snapped, with a whiff of Vanilla and Cherry tobacco smoke wafting in the breeze. Still a much nicer aroma than some sickly strawberry vapour from an electronic device. I gathered that you can’t just step outside for a quick smoke with a pipe, the whole idea is the taking the time, enjoying the ritual. A good spot for Saf is the beach, the pipe is always with her on beach days, and, it seems, most of her fellow students think it’s actually quite cool.
