Pinus aristata is distinguished from the other bristlecone pines to the west by leaves with the abaxial surface with a strong, narrow median groove and scales of the seed cone bearing a terminal slender prickle mostly 6-10 mm long (the other bristlecones lack this long aristate prickle). This site lies along the base of the south shoulder of Sante Fe Baldy, Santa Fe County, New Mexico.
Pinus strobus 'Nana', 2019 photo, Common Name: Dwarf White Pine, Size: #Conifer, light Green, USDA Hardiness Zone 3-8, In Garden Bed HR-F for 38.1 YEARS (HLG). Planted in 1981.
Missouri Botanical Garden: Nana Group is used by many nurseries as a catchall term for describing a group of compact, shrubby, mounded, irregularly branched, spreading, dwarf forms of eastern white pine. These plants are very slow growing, often reaching only 2' tall after 10 years. They eventually mature to 3' tall by 4' wide, but less frequently may reach 4-7' in height and 6-10' in width. Silvery blue green needles are soft to the touch. Do not produce cones in early years.

The most popular Shrine on Gozo, the one dedicated to Our Lady of Ta' Pinu also lies within the perimeter of Gharb. This architectural masterpiece was built next to an old chapel (still existing), where it is profoundly believed that back in 1883, Our Lady has spoken to a devotee from Gharb named Karmni Grima. Ta' Pinu Sanctuary is a place of great devotion and is of national importance. Numerous pilgrims, both locals and tourists visit Ta' Pinu Shrine all year round. The main painting of the church depicts the Assumption to the Heavens of Our Lady, and is the same painting that was enshrined in the old medieval chapel.

Bought many 2 ft seedings from Coldwater Farms. Have 6 or so along the driveway. White pines grow well in Michigan. The eastern white pine could be the tallest tree in eastern North America (230 ft). Mine are 20 ft. or so after 15 years. There are many interesting white pine cultivars.

Sugar pines makes one of the longest cones of the pine genus. This photo shows some immature female cones.
These trees are probably 3000-4000 years old. It is hard for a mere human to grasp that scale standing next to these ancient organisms.
Scientific name: Pinus x holfordiana
Common name: Holford pine
Family: Pinaceae
Holford Pine is easy to find thanks to the eye-catching 6-to 8-inch cones suspended from its branches. Needles are blue-green, 5-to 7-inches long and branches are usually pubescent (covered with down or hairs). In 1904, natural cross-pollination between Pinus ayacahuite (Mexican white pine) and Pinus wallichiana (Himalayan pine) resulted in a generation of seedlings. Thirty years later when the first cones were produced, it became clear that the young trees were distinctly different from both parents.
