Here is a juvenile longleaf pine in its rocket stage. Apparently they sit like this for a while before they shoot up into small pine trees. Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park

The Basilica of Ta’ Pinu is the most famous place of pilgrimage for the Maltese Islanders. Its origins go back to a day in June in 1883, when a woman heard the voice of the Virgin Mary in an old chapel. In the following years, many miracles and acts of grace were manifested at the site.
Many believe that the prayers said in the chapel saved Gozo from the plague, which had stricken Malta at that time. The locals therefore decided to build a larger and more magnificent church on the site in honour of the Blessed Virgin. Funds were raised from Gozitans, including those living abroad and works on the new church began in 1920, with voluntary labour from the local community.
In 1931, Ta’ Pinu was consecrated and a year later Pope Pius XI raised it to the status of Basilica. The original 16th century chapel was fully integrated into the new church.

Whitebark pine in the Bridger Range is not common and found at middle elevations on protected east facing slopes. The few trees observed in and around Bridger Bowl during the summer 2019 were producing many reddish pollen cones diagnostic of this species but relatively few new seed cones. Reddish pollen cones are diagnostic of whitebark pine.
A shoot of a Scots Pine. In Finland we have 26 300 000 hectares of forests, 71.6% of the area of the country. The total volume of the tree stems is 2 100 000 000 cubic meters, the most common tree is this pine, half of the forests are pine forests. The name of this pine is Scots Pine, is it fair? :-)
Pinus nigra. The female cones are the size of a matchhead when first produced and grow to the size of a grape for their first year. They aren't fully mature until the second year, however. When they're about the size of an egg they open their scales and shed their seeds.
Early morning light filtering through a forest dominated by Pinus sabiniana, an endemic species native to California.
These forests normally experience frequent fires and their species are adapted to reproduce in response to intense heat and regenerate from the ground up after fires.
