De veldlathyrus (Lathyrus pratensis) is een klimmende, vaste plant uit de vlinderbloemenfamilie (Leguminosae). De soort komt van nature voor in Eurazië. De plant groeit op bouw- en grasland, langs wegen en op dijken. Daarnaast wordt de plant gebruikt in bloemweide- en bermmengsels. De vruchten worden peulen genoemd en komen in allerlei vormen voor, de gewone vorm vindt men bij de erwt en boon. Andere vormen zijn lidpeulen, gekromde, gedraaide, gewonden peulen of met haken aan de peultjes. Lidpeulen zijn in hokjes verdeelde peulen.
In de keuken is het familie van erwten, sperciebonen, bonen, snijbonen, tuinbonen, pinda's en linzen.
In de tuin is het familie van de Goudenregen, siererwten en Blauwe regen.

1. Mimosoideae: 80 genera and 3,200 species. Mostly tropical and warm temperate Asia and America. Mimosa, Acacia.
2. Caesalpinioideae: 170 genera and 2,000 species, cosmopolitan. Caesalpinia, Senna, Bauhinia, Amherstia.
3. Faboideae: 470 genera and 14,000 species, cosmopolitan. Astragalus, Lupinus.

The Pindaya Caves are a major Buddhist pilgrimage site and tourist attraction set in the hills overlooking the small town of Pindaya. The main cave contains hundreds of gilded Buddha images, crammed into every available space within, dating from the late 18th century onwards and is entered through the Shwe U Min (Golden Cave) Pagoda built into the hillside.
