This is one of two piercing darts inside the sting of a paper wasp, likely Polistes dominula (an invasive species). The dart is a hollow tube which delivers venom. This micrograph shows the venom outlet at the tip of the dart.
This individual was trapped while building a nest on my house and killed using Ethyl Acetate. Whole insect fixed 24 hours in FAA (formaldehyde, acetic acid, ethyl alcohol.) Dehydrated in IPA at 35, 50, 70, 85, 95 %. Wing sections dissected under 95 % IPA and mounted directly in Euparal.

Ear piercing has been practiced all over the world since ancient times, particularly in tribal cultures. There is considerable written and archaeological evidence of the practice. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has taken an official position against piercings unless for medical reasons, also accepting piercings for women as acceptable so long as there is one set of piercings in the lower lobe of the ears and no other place on the body. Wearing of nose rings on the Sabbath is forbidden by the Talmud. Some contemporary Southeast Asian rituals also practice body piercing, as a form of spiritual self-mortification.
Este piercing já é mais comumente visto, apesar de ser um pouco dolorido por ser uma parte da cartilagem (geralmente é a parte da cartilagem que menos dói). Nesse caso, a jóia usada doi um micro labret, que apesar de ter sido desenvolvida para o lábio, a jóia é perfeita para aplicação no tragus, pois tem uma área de atria menos do que os captives normalmente usados. Não atrapalha e ainda ajuda a protejer quando se usa fones de ouvido, por conter uma chapa na outra extremidade.

This client eventually wants to wear a segment ring in the piercing, but rings aren't ideal for healing initial piercings because of the excess movement and pressure. This will heal quick and comfortably, and within a couple months she'll be wearing a fancy segment ring in there with no problems at all.
