Yes that is an acupuncture needle, piercing through a point called Bai Hui / Du Mai - 20.
One of my aunt was having somekind of energy treatment by so called "health device", and somehow that device caused energy blockage and thus making her deprived of energy progressively.
She came as the last guest at my house for Eid Al Fitr gathering and that's when i noticed she was as pale as a living zombie and her eyes were dim.
Upon further inspection it was revealed that her government meridian was blocked. Presumably by a "health device" that was used upon her 3-4 hours before she came to my house.
It took about 5 pairs of acupuncture points at her back, Bai Hui at her crown, 2 pair of acupuncture points at her ventral part and two moxibution point to restore her fully.
Ironically, she got sickened by a so called health device from a particular MLM that sell the device for whooping 40.000.000 Rupiah / around USD 3000, and her condition got restored with the help of a set of acupuncture needles that cost merely 35.000-50.000 Rupiah / 2.7-3.7 USD per box.
Not all so called "expensive health device" is are trully suitable for you.
Oh, you asked why an ophthalmologist know acupuncture? One of my late grandfather was a traditional chinese doctor, and one of my late aunt was an acupuncture specialist. I learned from them many many years ago and now currently learning acupuncture for certification from one health institute in Chengdu, China, for international standardization and recognition.

This beautiful animal is not a sub-species of Bengal Tiger. The white tiger is produced when two carriers of the recessive gene breed. The condition is known as leucism. All White Bengal Tigers are in captivity today. It is unlikely that they would survive in the wild.

We celebrated a party with Hamid, an Afghan friend of ours who just finished finals. At the party some of the (American) girls decided they wanted their noses pierced. Our Afghan host produced a needle and thread.
(Don't worry, copious amounts of hand sanitizer were used...)
