(I was just thinking today what a luxury it was, photography-wise, to be able to shoot in public in Japan. So many subjects will happily pose for you or ignore you while you take as many shots of them as you want. They never question you about what you want to use the images for, either. And then, quite the opposite of Japan, there was today's experience in Martin Place in Sydney's CBD. I wanted to do some street photography with fill flash to ensure I got better exposures of the front of my subjects when they were lit from the side or behind. But everyone I shot got really angry that I photographed them, including one who came back and demanded that I delete the photo I had just taken of him. It was almost fate that my lens electronics were playing up, forcing me to stop...I don't know that I could have handled any more anger or abuse during one photoshoot!)

Sunlight pierces though a heavy sky to create a rainbow over Hopperstad Stave Church in Vik, Norway.
From Wiki: This church was built around the year 1130. The Stave churches are constructions of high quality, richly decorated with carvings. In virtually all of them the door frames are decorated from top to bottom with carvings. This tradition of rich ornamentation appears to go back to the animal carvings of the Viking Age. The stave church doorways are among the most distinctive works of art to be found in Norway. However, it is difficult to connect them with the Christian gospel.
This earring goes through three helix cartilage piercings. I got the first (middle) one done in December '07 and the other two done exactly one month ago. The two new piercings finally healed to the point where I could stick this in without it causing too much pressure.
It took about five emails back-and-forth with an earring machinist to get the order exactly perfect for my ear: it's solid titanium, custom painted (striped) with two shades of blue, 16 gauge wire girth, internally threaded ends, 6mm distance between each loop, 8mm loop diameter and runs along a perfectly straight line of piercings (required no bending for the curvature of my ear).
And that's my view of beautiful San Francisco from my patio balcony. :)
