Sarawak Nikonian field day Last Saturday saw more than 60 turnouts for the Nikon get together event and model shoot sessions. Armed with a variety of nikon cameras and gears, the atmosphere was ecstatic when 4 models were paraded and designated into few stations in and around the Kuching CIty Orchid Garden.

Here are some of the series of shots that I managed to capture for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Cheers, Ringgo

I've got other shots including higher magnifications but for various reasons I like this the best, not the least of which is the plane in the upper right! Also, for those wondering, the bright spot lower left is the planet Saturn, while the blueish star above the moon is the star Regulus.

It was the annual Steam Rally at the Lincolnshire Showground, and I was helping to man the Lincolnshire Mills Group marquee. The sun shone fitfully through storm clouds, and the pleasant smell of the many exhibits was in the air. Suddenly there was a loud roar, I dashed out of the tent, and just in time saw the Red Arrows doing a fly past over the Showground.

Crane Fly tries dialing the phone, and sadly it was unsucessful, so it is now dancing on the light fixtures in my office. I'll catch it and put it outside.

Strained lava of 2007 - The great quantity of fallen snow doesn't succeed in covering the lava because it is still very warm.

I had mentioned to Cindy that I had a good tree climbing story and she said she'd like me to share it with her... so here goes.

many years ago, in a land far away... well, where I lived in a suburb south of the burgh...

It was the first Columbia shuttle lift off and we thought we'd have a party to celebrate, the date was November 11, 1982.

We were up late and didn't want to miss the 7:19 am liftoff time, had to stay awake.

There was a small park across the cobblestone road that has huge pine trees.

The sun was starting to rise and we decided to climb the huge pines. I put my coveralls on to keep the pine pitch off my clothes, a canteen of orange juice and peanuts in my pockets just in case I needed to share my high protein snack with the squirrels.

Steve and I and Leo a dear friend, were up in the tree watching the sunrise around 6 am, it was gorgeous colors in the sky.

Leo was doing jungle-like bird calls, which caught the attention of the bird dogs that lived nextdoor, they pointed us. Mrs. So'n'so never liked us anyways, so she called the police.

In the meantime Leo had gone back into the house, it was just Steve and I in the tree... when about 5 police cars came screaming into this little park area.

One of these borough policemen asked Steve if he had any I.D... so Steve jumps down out of the tree and comes upright immediately in front of this not very tall policeman. He saw the I.D. and that his address was about an hour from where we were...

"what are you doing on this end of town?" he asked Steve.

"visiting her" Steve said as he points up in the tree at me.

Then he asked me if I had any I.D. - I informed him that I don't usually carry a purse when tree climbing but I could go into the house and retrieve it... and started to come down out of the tree.

At this time another police car pulls up and it's the Captain, which I knew from when I was bartending. The Capt. would hang out and drink coffee while we closed up the bar, sometimes going to breakfast together at Hojo's.

He looked up the tree and saw me, he said - "How'd I know it would be you Susie".

hahahahah... but of course!

the Capt asked me what I was high on, I informed him that I was high on life, a gorgeous sunrise and peanuts.

"what are you doin' climbing the tree"...

I said - remember when you were young and tree climbing was fun, still is.

so one by one all the cop cars leave, except for the first one Steve talked to, as little sister Lynne had come out of the house and was flirting with this young handsome cop. She had him eating peanuts out of her hand (they even dated a few times).

And then, time for liftoff - we were all cheering wildly in front of the TV at 7 am as the shuttle lifted off, Lynne came in and said her new boyfriend would like us to keep it down, kinda early in the morning for so much noise.

No problem as we were all headed to snooze land after the liftoff was over.

I don't think they could of arrested us, as climbing trees can't possibly be illegal.

there ya have it - true story... honestly I couldn't make this stuff up.

does anyone else have a tree climbing story that involves the police?

I smudged this in photoshop from an original photo of mine.
