If anyone desires a wish to come true they must
capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it.
Since they make no sound, they can't tell the wish
to anyone but the Great Spirit.
So by making the wish and releasing the butterfly
it will be taken to the heavens and be granted.

The Marbled White. Position chosen to obtain backlighting, rim-lighting and a dark background to enhance colour, contrast and translucence in wings and to pick out body outline. Nikon D300; Aperture priority; ƒ6.3; 1/200 sec. Taken: 01/07/08; 08:26:45
This is dramatic landscape in more than geographical and 'light' sense. Up there on the cliff's edges was fought one of the most ferocious battles of the history of Hawai'i: Kaleka'anae, the Battle of the Leaping Mullet (May 1795). King Kamehameha I the Great, the great unifier of Hawai'i, had driven the army of his opponent on O'ahu, King Kalanikupule, right to these steeps of the Ko'olau Range. Rather than give themselves up, they jumped to their deaths...
Nothing today reminds of this. The setting below these cliffs is that of the majestic Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens with its lakes and forests. A wonderful day might be spent there.
Amid the concrete surroundings of the Airport, waiting for my Seoul-bound flight, I reminisce.
Yet another variation of a Tachinidae fly. I hope I am not becoming a 'fly bore' by posting these fly images, but up close, they are a bit fascinating ..... to me at least. This one has a very crisp and shiny livery.

but I'm sure I'll get it. The "penultimate" shot for me would be to capture Hershey trying to catch falling leave's in mid-air. Would really have to be ready for that kind of shot.
Critter having a spring time fling... I could barely see these two, until I downloaded the image and got a bit closer.

We live in a world of ever-depleting resources. Money is no longer the currency. Air, water and soil are the currencies for the future. --Woody Tasch
I was in Montana visiting a friend, and we were on our way north from Billings, heading to a little town called Jordan. We stopped along the way to do a little bit of catfish fishing, and as we were leaving at around dusk I saw this gorgeous little fox cub run across the street into a den. I pulled out my camera and focused on the entrance, only to see him pop up in a second entrance on the other side of the den. I refocused, and he moved to the first entrance- but this time with his sibling. I finally decided I could spend all night swiveling back and forth between entrances so I just focused on one end of the den and hoped for the best. He popped up one last time, and this was the only shot I got. It was a good one.
