Another shot of the action and harp of the grand piano. I'm not really sure if form follows function or vice versa with the grand piano. Arguably one of the most beautiful instruments to both the eye and the ear.
All those black mutes dancing like musical soldiers under the hand of a skilled pianist are a sight to behold. To see the mutes activated with the sustain pedal or by individual note depression is amazing enough, but have you ever seen what the mutes do when the pianist holds down the middle pedal on a grand piano? Called the sostenuto pedal, this mechanism only lifts up the mutes from the chord that is being played when the sostenuto pedal is depressed.
I have never ceased to be amazed that grand piano manufacturers have continued to include the sostenuto pedal in their designs, especially considering that 99% of all pianists have no idea what that pedal does! (I only know because a wise old piano technician showed me...) In all the online video piano lessons posted on my website , I have never once addressed the sostenuto pedal. Maybe that would be an interesting subject for a new online lesson one of these days. hmmm

Sorry I did not upload this yesterday I felt kind of sick after I took this, well right after I started my History home work.
Now I am off to school. It is kind of creepy because some school in the county are canceled because of flooding, there is a lot of water every where.
Oh and I do take Piano lessons, I just started in September.
7:55 Update: My schooled canceled due to power outages and flooding.

One of the qualities that a grand piano uses to draw you in is its sheer massiveness. Check out those frame members on the harp of this piano. When all the strings are up to tension, the combined force is many many tons! How come tension is always required to produce beauty?

He loves his piano lessons with grandpa. You wouldn't know it from this picture, though, since he's clearly more interested in something out of frame, and has a semi-glazed look in his eyes. But trust me, he loves them.
