What's the Best Age To Start Music Lessons?
Here's an amazing fact: did you know that Brahms wrote his first symphony when he was forty years old? It's true.
Andrea Bocelli practiced law until his mid-thirties, and finally became a best-selling artist at the age of fourty-one.
It's a scientific fact that you become smarter the minute you start learning music. A 2003 harvard study revealed that the brains of adult musicians had a larger volume of gray matter than the brains of non-musicians.
Never picked up an instrument? Don't worry - a beginner piano or violin student can learn to play a simple song on their instrument in as little as one lesson.
You can start learning guitar, or singing no matter where you are in life. The most important thing is getting started.

We are lucky to be surrounded by music. 4 of us play instruments and my house is filled with the sound of the piano every day. Our piano teacher helped us out with this theme and found some very old sheet music for me to photograph.

This student is preparing for her Grade 6 piano exam. She needed a helping hand in organizing her practises a bit more effectively. I said that at her level, if she just runs through everything, every day, she's just maintaining her current level. Nothing is getting better.
But if she splits her Task List and spends more time on each task, then she should hear some steady progress.
Here's another great shot of the heavily wound bass strings on a grand piano. The windings are actually a compromise to get the strings to vibrate slow enough to produce those low frequencies. The only other way to get them to vibrate slow enough would be to make them ridiculously long. That's why a long grand piano sounds so much better than a tiny little spinit piano.
Being a crazy piano technician and tuner for years I actually studied this a bit and found some pretty interesting things out about string winding on pianos: when a string has windings added to make it vibrate lower, the overtones start getting sharper!
On a nice 9 foot Steinway, these slightly sharp overtones can actually be pleasing as they bring a "bite" to the sound. However, on a little tiny spinet piano, the overtones in the bass strings can be as much as a quarter tone sharp! To your ears, it's not much different than a cat fight, even when you play only one bass string by itself. To compound the trouble, the piano tuner actually has to progressively tune the higher end of the spinet piano sharper and sharper so that the fundamental tones of the upper strings will be somewhat in tune with the overtones of the lower strings.
Check out the heavily wound bass strings in the spinet piano some time - they are almost as thick as your little finger.

Piano practice can be fun too!
Most people don’t really want to ‘learn’ to play the piano or ‘practice’ the piano, they just want to ‘play’ the piano. ‘Play’ sounds like fun, ‘practice’ sounds like a chore. We get this image from childhood – some kid stuck indoors ‘practising’ scales while all the other kids are outside the window ‘playing.
So, the first thing we need to do is to see our piano practice in a new light. See it as a way of accelerating the learning process so that SOON you’ll be able to ‘play’ piano and play it well. If you don’t practice and you just play old familiar tunes you move rather slowly. Yes, you’ll get better at playing those old familiar tunes but technically you won’t be pushing yourself to greater heights.
Proper, structured piano practise helps you stride forwards. I say ‘proper’ because a lot of people have an idea that practice Is just playing songs over and over. Practice needs to involve unchartered territory. The golden rule is – ‘practice what you CAN’T play, not what you CAN play.
You have to learn new things every day. No matter how big an artist you have become. Here I am Just Sharing the little knowledge that I have gained through my experience
We have very good books, videos, audioable records for practice, if you want, you can get them by clicking on the link given below

Something about this picture of the wound bass piano strings suggests flying to me. I always get the urge to take my fingernail and run it up these windings to make that particular "zzzzzz" sound! Don't tell my piano teacher that I told you that, I know you're never supposed to touch the strings with your oily fingers, but I used to love doing that as a kid.
Chick Corea has a piece that he plays, I think it's called "children's song" or something similar, but he's got his hands all over those strings during most of the song. Watching the video, I always imagine that the studio owner was cringing when he saw it, but said nothing because it was Chick!
Speaking of piano strings, one of the most amazing things I ever saw was a video where a group of music students removed the mutes on a grand piano, and then began to play a Mozart string Quartet with popsicle sticks. The popsicle sticks must've had rosin or something on them to produce a tone on the strings, but each player had two popsicle sticks and managed four notes or so. It was hauntingly beautiful.
