Shadow play (Chinese: 皮影戏, pí yĭng xì) or shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment using opaque, often articulated figures in front of an illuminated backdrop to create the illusion of moving images. It is popular in various cultures. At present, more than 20 countries are known to have shadow show troupes.

in Indonesia

Shadow puppet theater is called Wayang kulit in Indonesia and it is particularly popular in Java and Bali. The term derived from the word wayang literally means shadow or imagination in Javanese, also connotes "spirit". While kulit means skin as the material of the puppet is the thin perforated leather sheats made from buffalow's skin.

The performances of shadow puppet theater are accompanied by gamelan in Java, and by "gender wayang" in Bali, and originally might last all night long, sometimes up to six hours or until dawn. The complete wayang kulit troupes include dalang (puppet master), nayaga (gamelan players), and sinden (female choral singer). Some of the nayaga also performed as male choral singer. The dalang (puppet master) play the wayang behind the cotton screen illuminated by oil lamp or modern halogen lamp, creating visual effects similar to animation. The thin puppet is animated by the movement of hands connected with joints manipulated through rods handle made of carved buffalow's horn. UNESCO designated Wayang Kulit from Indonesia as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003.

O teatro de sombras (皮影戏), (pinyin: pi ying xi) é uma arte muito antiga, originária da China, de onde se espalhou para o mundo, sendo atualmente praticada regularmente por grupos de mais de 20 países.

A origem lendária

The Raspberry Pi has a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip (SoC), which includes an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU and (as of 15 October 2012) 512 megabytes of RAM. It does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, but uses an SD card for booting and long-term storage.

Notes

Really think a size 7 or 8 needle would have been better since it was a DK yarn. But it blocked out quite lovely. Think the drape would have been better. But I was hoping with the wool, it would be a good heavier shawl for the cold. And I didn't want to run out of yarn.

The name is because I thought we were leaving for the Adirondacks on Friday, August 23rd. However, due to a drunken or stoned @$$)!*# hitting our parked car at 3 am, the family vacation has been postponed or cancelled... The hope was that we could get the car mess taken care of so we could go.

The good news is we were able to go for a shortened trip. But not the vacation I really needed. But some is better than none.

I have been wanting to do one of the EZ 100 anniversary shawls for over a year. But I hadn't gotten to it.

It seems like it will be a beautiful shawl. Though the needle size is *definitely* too small. Should have gone up to an 8 I think.

The pattern is simple and well written. My only wish is that the chart repeats had the row #, not the # for the chart. For instance, the Slanting Twigs gives the numbers of 1-36. It would have been more useful to have them as the number in the pattern itself.

I wound the Mad Angel Creations yarn without knowing what it should be. I looked a bunch of different patterns, two of which were pi shawls based on EZ's design. Then something clicked. Since I was planning on taking the yarn to the Adirondacks, which my DH & his family call Camp, this could be a great project.

The yarn is thicker and I have less than the pattern calls for. I thought I would have to cut off some repeats on the bottom.

I removed two rows of the stockinette at the bottom edge. However, I still had some yarn left. It might have been able to make the entire pattern. But I am glad I clipped the two rows. It meant I didn't run out and didn't stress as much.

Overall, I love the pattern. Though I confess the yarn was a bit more stiffer than I would have anticipated with the silk in it.

8/26/13 -

Used up the first ball of yarn. Got all the way to row 94 before needing to add the new ball of yarn. So there is some hope I might be able to knit the whole thing. Then again, the number of stitches per row just double so we shall see.

9/9/13 -

Blocked yesterday. The flipping edge took ages to block. It was at least two hours, probably closer to two & a half. However it looks gorgeous.

My problem? I put it on to see the length. And I determined that unless I have a turtleneck on, I am never wearing the thing. It is too scratchy.

I am sure it would be lovely for someone without wool issues. But it is not staying with me... *sigh*

The wire glows surprisingly bright, and I can drive the frequency up to about 1500Hz and down to about 200Hz for a wide range of brightness.
