Sal a gosto

Pest Control in Byron, Georgia

túl egyenes az arca baloldalon(?)

Another year and another shot of the pestiferous sawfly larvae (Croesus septentrionalis) [bit of Latin for Spud, no need to get your outfit out again though]. Last year these appeared on my silver birch and they stripped it of leaves in days. This year they are back with a vengeance. However, this year I have taken action. It goes against everything I believe in as I don't knowingly kill or harm any living thing [I make K kill mosquitoes and midges and my meat comes from Waitrose, I don't need to know anymore than that...]. Anyway, these little sods like the rosemary beetle have been nuked. Sorry cycle of life but I love my birches, the papery bark is so nice for collages and the catkins rock. And these sawfly larvae annoy me with their "fuck off" defensive tail wagging. Violet spent hours observing them...that's my little entomologist!

Licskó János műterme 1855 és 1880 között működött Pesten, két helyen is (akkoriban a Kerepesi út a mai Rákóczi út elején kezdődött).

Gyöngyösön 1860 és 1875 közt működött.

Jászberényben 1865-ben nyitotta meg a műtermét, 1870-ig működött a Nádorkertben.

One of the resident Downy Woodpeckers, taking care of the infestation of Pine Sawfly larvae. Apparently, these larvae are very desirable to many of the backyard birds, which is good news for us.

Squirrels are not the only pests in the bird lover's world. Chipmunks like this may be just as pesty, but they manage to be cute while they commit their bird-feeder burglaries. Even when what they'e doing what can be called funny, squirrels seem to be challenging everyone to an intelligence contest. Very irritating indeed!

I am grateful for your visit. My own photography has been limited to what I can do out my kitchen window while I am working on sewing projects at the kitchen table. The pictures you post on Flickr give me a lot of pleasure, and I take your visits to look at whatever I have scrounged up as a real kindness.

Knowing you are still out there doing your stuff during the world's Covid-19 troubles is encouraging. A friend's father died of the virus a couple of days ago, and a few people at my retirement community have tested positive, which seems impossible as careful and caring as everyone around here has been. (Some workers just stopped by with snacks, and then another came delivering the bird seed I ordered.) My state (North Carolina) has not even reached its peak yet--that's good, I think--but by itself my county (Mecklenburg) had had more than 2000 cases and 62 deaths as of two days ago. Mecklenburg is the most populous of North Carolina's 100 counties.

I've been trying to make anti-Covid masks, but I am not very satisfied with the results. One wants to do something to help. If I can't do better in the bird-photography than I've been doing, I may resort to posting a picture of someone wearing one of my masks.

I tried to persuade my best friend, a digital artist, to make T-shirts sporting a slogan along the lines of "The New Patriotism: Real Americans Wear Masks in Public." (The idea was to counter those idiots who say masks are unfashionable and only sissies wear them.) My friend could produce a terrific illustration for such a T-shirt. But right now my friend is in the kind of Covid funk that even creativity won't cure.

Please take care of yourselves and your countrymen (and countrywomen).

I don't usually shoot squirrels. I think of them as a pest more often than not because they dig up my yard and will destroy bird feeders. Now, I have one living in my woodpecker nest box.

I have to admit, this one caught my eye and my heart. It was rewarded with a handful of peanuts.

I hope this one is not the one living in my woodpecker nest box. LOL
