The symptoms are linear narrow lesion about a 1/8 to ¼ inch wide. They range from a ½ to ¾ inches long. They are grayish-tan and have a pigmented border. The lesions exist between the veins and are linear in appearance. The fungus is Bipolaris zeicola (Helminthosporium carbonum) and has five different races that can infect the plant. The fungus overwinters on corn crop residue from previous years.

Cicada Killer Wasps are stinging insects and predators of cicadas. Female wasps dig burrows in the soil in sunny areas. They capture cicadas, immobilize them with a sting and place them in their burrow. Female wasps then lay an egg on the cicada, which will serve as food for a developing larval wasp.

This pea aphid was parasitized by a parasitic wasp. The parasitoid wasp lays an egg inside the aphid. After the egg hatches the larva feeds on the aphid ultimately killing it, leaving behind only the aphid's exoskeleton (Aphid Mummy). Once the parasitoid is fully developed the adult wasp exits out the posterior of the aphid shell. The young adult then begins its search for more aphids.
The white mold fungus (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) can be a very serious and problematic disease of soybeans. This fungus has a wide host range including: alfalfa, beans, canola, clover, peppermint, potato, sunflower and tomato. White mold can also attack certain weeds like amaranth, castor beans, dandelions, lambsquarter, ragweed and velvetleaf. In total there are about 400 different plant species that are susceptible to this disease.

Paper wasps create open comb nests with no envelope. These nests are usually found under overhangs, where they are protected from the elements. Nests are only used for one year, but nest material is persistent. In addition, optimal sites may be used each year.
