I'm taking $1 portraits as long as money permits. (See Thomas Hawk with his $2 portrait project and Justin Korn with his $1 portrait project.)
What's the premise? I'll offer $1 to anyone who asks me for money in exchange for their portrait. I'm a shy person, but I'll do my best to find out a little about the person. You never know if it'll make someone's day for at least talking to them a little bit.
While I was on the escalator at Wilshire/Normandie, this man asked me if I had a dollar.
"What do you need it for?"
"I'm need to get a ticket for the bus, man."
I awkwardly told him about my $1 portrait project. At first, he hesitated. I reassured him that it was only a photography project, allowing me to interact with people.
I noticed his eyes were slightly yellow. Jaundice? Sad.
At the top of the escalator, he finally agreed. He walked to a spot away from foot traffic, then I snapped his portrait.
"Where you off to now?"
"I gotta get some food, man. I'm hungry," walking in the direction of the bus stop.
"Alright, take care."
I never did get his name.

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks
The Hong Kong Truck Culture
The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.
*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album
In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below
☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.
☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.
☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.
The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.
The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-
Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion
Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.
Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.

You need a win a lottery to win 1 of 20 permits to go visit this hellish but exquisitely beautiful landscape. The permits are required to preserve the beauty of the fragile landscape. Weather changes every few minutes, you can slip or fall at any turn. The high altitude makes it hard to breath. But the pictures come out great even if you don't compose !
As your baby develops more established, they in the end need to begin investing some energy outside. This permits you to acquaint them with another condition and allows you to play with them outwardly.
There are numerous reasons why you need your kid to play outside. Harvard Medical School clarifies that open air recess gives your kid some introduction to the sun, assists with keeping them dynamic, and it enables them to begin building up some basic abilities (1).
The best open air baby swing can permit your youngster to play outside in an innocuous manner. In any case, without safeguard, these items may not be as innocuous as you might suspect. We assist you with finding the most ideal choice that will protect your baby while playing outside. If you want to know how to build a swing frame click here.
Types Of Outdoor Swings
There are a few different types of outdoor baby swing. You should acknowledge yourself with these types. Consider how they work.
Also, look at the pros and cons of each. This will help you decide on the best outdoor baby swing type that is safe, as well as useful for your own child.
The primary types of outdoor swings for baby girls on the market at the moment include:
Bucket Swing:
A bucket swing offers a deeper environment in which your child can sit. This generally provides a safer way for your child to swing, as the chances of them falling out of the swing are much lower.
Disk Swing:
A disc swing generally contains a disk that your child would sit on. Their legs go around a rope in the middle. A small disk can make it more likely for a child to fall off. This option is also not suitable for babies and children who are still very young.
Glider:
Gliders differ from one product to the next. In most cases, they offer a relatively long yet narrow surface area. They do not offer superior support for your child, which does make them a riskier option to choose from.
Belt Swing:
A belt swing is often a preferred option. It contains a flexible belt-like material at the bottom, which is attached to two chains. This is generally an option for an older child, such as a toddler.
Occasionally, a harrier will sit quietly and permit a close approach. This female was content to rest and preen on her perch, only looking in my direction if I made a noise or moved furtively closer. I'm not sure why I bothered - she knew exactly where I was and how close she'd allow me. I watched her for a half hour just after dawn, as she changed from a pinky hue to this more golden cast. Even other harriers flying overhead didn't perturb her.

These days I continued to make photographic hay while the permit sun is shining since additional Covid-19 lockdowns seem to be looming. The target for last weekend was the R Pond complex starting south of Bedwell Bayfront Park in Menlo Park and continuing down to the Facebook Headquarters. This set of fallow salt ponds has always presented photographically interesting colors and textures – testimony to residual salt dating back to their production days. However, change is coming as the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project has construction underway in the area.
Sometime next year, Salt Pond R4 should be once again connected to the tides and this will start its slow transformation back into marshland. R4’s neighbor, Salt Pond R3 will be managed to provide a dry, exposed pond suitable for Snowy Plover habitat. These two ponds were once separated by a brine distribution canal. Construction is currently underway to fill that canal thus creating an impressively wide levee with a shallow slope facing R4.
The weather made this photo session doubly challenging due to an overcast sky and highly variable winds. After hiking out to the R3/R4 levee, I found myself in a dead calm. When the wind began to stir out of the north I was able to launch my 8.5-foot, lightweight Rokkaku and this marvel was able to lift the Canon M3 cradle in an almost imperceptible wind. Unfortunately, the wind continued to build and the 8.5-foot kite was considerably overpowered about 20 minutes into the photo session. The phrase “pulling like a mule” comes to mind as in these conditions the principal concern is kite spar failure, which might strand my camera gear somewhere downwind. So, I swapped out for the 7.5-foot Rokkaku at the southern end of the levee which, of course, prompted slack wind from the breeze gods. The answer here was waiting patiently for 15 minutes anticipating the return of the breeze. When it returned, I continued the photo session and by the time I walked back to the northern end of the levee the 7.5-foot kite was overpowered. Again the mule.
In terms of light, it was a predominantly overcast day with generous hints of smoke due to an inversion layer. Now and then, the sun would peek through a gap in the clouds and this was delightful. But, for the large part it was a hazy, sober light. I look forward to reshooting on a brighter day.
I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. Kite flying is prohibited over the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge without a Special Use Permit.
(more details later, as time permits)

This is the continuation of a photo-project that I began in the summer of 2008 (which you can see in this Flickr set), and continued throughout 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 (as shown in this Flickr set, this Flickr set, this Flickr set, this Flickr set, and this Flickr set)
): a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. These are the people in my neighborhood, aka "peeps in the 'hood."
As I indicated when I first started this project six years ago, I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a zoom telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me. Sometimes I find an empty bench on a busy street corner, and just sit quietly for an hour, watching people hustling past on the other side of the street; they're almost always so busy listening to their iPod, or talking on their cellphone, or daydreaming about something, that they never look up and see me aiming my camera in their direction.
I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep my camera switched on, and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject. Indeed, some of my most interesting photos have been so-called "hip shots," where I don't even bother to raise the camera up to my eye; I just keep the zoom lens set to the maximum wide-angle aperture, point in the general direction of the subject, and take several shots. As long as I can keep the shutter speed fairly high (which sometimes requires a fairly high ISO setting), I can usually get some fairly crisp shots -- even if the subject is walking in one direction, and I'm walking in the other direction, while I'm snapping the photos.
With only a few exceptions, I've generally avoided photographing bums, drunks, crazies, and homeless people. There are plenty of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. There have been a few opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. This is one example, and here is another example.
The other thing I've noticed, while carrying on this project for the past six years, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... unfortunately, there was just nothing memorable about them. They're all part of this big, crowded city; but for better or worse, there are an awful lot that you won't see in these Flickr sets of mine...

These are getting rare. Once they were all over the south of England. Now they have been made pretty obsolete by self-service ticket machines.
A cheaper alternative to platform tickets (5p vs 10p), especially where there's no ticket office to issue platform tickets.
which permits them to make exactly the opposite mistakes with the younger ones :-) Sidney J. Harris

May. 05, 2022.

Basta lembrar do humano e do cadáver.

D. João V determina a rápida reconstrução do castelo.

I have a confession to make: I’ve lived in New York City for 45 years — but until last night, I had never attended, observed, photographed, or participated in the annual Halloween Parade that takes place in Greenwich Village. I can’t be blamed for the first few years: I moved to NYC in the late 60’s (on Bleecker Street, right in the middle of the West Village), and the parade did not begin until 1974. But that means last night’s parade was the 40th such event … and for some reason, I missed them all.
But I was there last night … a little unsure of myself, for the parade did not actually begin until 7 PM, an hour after sunset. Even at 5 PM, the sun has usually dropped so low (in the fall and winter months) that the light is pretty mediocre for photography — and it was a cold, gray, overcast day as well. So I brought my flash along, even though I’ve rarely used it, and wandered through the crowd to see what I could find.
And it was a crowd: as early as 1985, it was estimated that some 250,000 people were participating in the event; I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a million people there last night. But at first, I couldn’t find any of them: the newspaper had announced that people could arrive at a pre-parade “staging” area on Canal Street and Sixth Avenue … but when I got there (early, as usual), there was not a soul to be seen. But I eventually noticed some costumed people who seemed to know where they were going … and I could hear music in the distance … so so I began heading north, and found the beginning of the crowd scene about three blocks further north, on Broome Street.
After that, it was sheer bedlam for the next couple of hours — until the parade officially began moving north on Sixth Avenue, right at 7 PM. The costumes were overwhelming — everything from witches and goblins, monsters, the GhostBusters, kings and queens and pirates and aliens. There were a few topless women with thick psychedelic body-paint to provide a small amount of modesty, and there were several groups of dancers who had obviously practiced dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” which blared loudly from several sound systems. Meanwhile, there were drummers and samba bands, steel bands, and informal groups doing their best to provide the crowd with Italian, Chinese, Irish, Dixieland, and African music…
After I left the parade, I took the subway from Canal Street up to 14th Street to meet my wife for a quiet dinner at a small Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. But everywhere I went — streets, sidewalks, subway stations — it seemed that all of Greenwich Village had been caught up in the revelry.
Beyond that, it’s impossible for me to describe the noise, the music, the costumes, and the overall revelry. For an overall summary, you might want to look at this Wikipedia article
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York's_Village_Halloween_Parade
But I think the only way to really understand what the NYC Halloween Parade is all about is to be there. Words don’t really suffice ...

Lost in Space________Episode # 1_______Death to Deniers !
Danger - Will Robinson, Danger !
These fine ladies want prison sentences handed down to individuals who dare to be themselves and to think differently while calling anyone with a different opinion from theirs to be a denier or hater ?
No one denies the existence of residential schools. And so why are Leah Gazan (NDP), Lindsay Mathyssen (NDP), Nahanni Fontaine (NDP) and Kimberley Murray (Liberal Government investigator) so dissatisfied and why are they trying to force their own radical and ego-driven personal viewpoints based on hearsay and as yet unproven allegations on everyone else ? Why do they want you to think the way they think, believe what they believe, and be forced ( by law ) to accept their unique, extreme left wing, selfish and self-serving narrative, (that they get paid for) as being Gods' truth, and,, if you were to dare resist then you are to be labelled hater or denier and become a criminal that could be sent to jail for up to life in prison under the law enshrined in Bill C-63 or C-9 that they are all pushing for ?

May 29th, 2026 Kentville Memorial Park ABF Friday night concert, ( Can the good ole days of dollar dogs and bargain Big 8 drinks be over) ? High level security to guard the 20 dollar burgers and kids bouncy castles ? ( must have taken up most of their budget at the sacrifice of bringing in some quality outside live entertainment acts ) ? Town brings in outside police to assist the local Kentville force, cordons off the ground zero event perimeter with road blocks, sets street barricades and places manned guard posts to establish maximum protective traffic control that unfortunately forces patrons including seniors, the handicapped and mothers carrying babies to park and walk a fair distance away from the park gates ? Also, in the past years this concert had always featured special invited guest rock bands, interesting games, demonstrations, displays and a visit from the Queen Annapolisa Royal party following the prestigious coronation ceremony in Wolfville, But the popular concert appears to have deteriorated into some kind of a Children's outdoor romper room type family show featuring food trucks, inflatable air bouncy castles and a local band as the featured star main stage performing act ? Not much to do or see for those above elementary grade school level other than to maybe purchase some food from a food truck charging upscale restaurant prices and to then dine on a paper plate with plastic utensils while standing up in a crowd of unruly kids being lustfully observed by nearby hungry saliva drooling pet dogs leashed to their owners ? However, thanks to the heightened crowd and traffic control there was a report of a parking violator being successfully apprehended and a runaway pet was also captured and returned to its owner ? www.flickr.com/photos/74039487@N02/54558198569/in/photost...
A cultural genocide is going on in Kentville ?
Why always Kentville ? Now it's the library ? First came the loss of the Railway and Day-liner service back in 1989, then Kings council expropriated the local Airport and evicted all the other established aviation schools and businesses, then they had tried to take Grand street parade away from Kentville in 2017, and then we lost the famous Cornwallis Inn logo and the 88 yrs old statue in Halifax was torn down, they then terminated Apple Blossom Princess Kentville and ended the 87 consecutive years of the Queen Annapolisa pageant and Kentville lost a massive amount of diversity that had always been provided by the multiple villages that always attended the Festivals, as well as the elimination of Princess teas, the Coronation, and cancellation of all mid-week public outdoor entertainment always normally held at Memorial Park during ABF week ? And now they appear to be after the popular long time Kentville Library ?
After the Town has proceeded with termination after termination while never offering replacements, and, as Kentville gradually approaches cultural ghost town status, we notice that the downtown business core (in which the Mayor has a major private business interest ) has been renovated and restored to pristine condition by way of a massive Town expenditure budgeted for a complete 100 % total beautification makeover program complete with new installations of street paving, street paint, new double sidewalks on both sides, new driveway entrances, new curb and gutter both sides, signage and flower pots ? And the other three surrounding streets making up this downtown business block have also been totally upgraded including Aberdeen Street, Cornwallis Street and Main Street ?

Bell media placing the citizens of Atlantic Canada in jeopardy after choosing cost cutting over public safety ?
Feb 2024 - Halifax Nova Scotia, Bell media and CTV have eliminated many of the crucial hours needed for local and community news reporting in Atlantic Canada ?
Recent Bell Canada Corporate decisions have left many Maritimers in a weakened and vulnerable position ? The East Coast Provinces of Canada appear to have been the target of severe Bell media local prime time news cancellations that will leave many Maritimers without their eagerly awaited crucial daily Noon hour news updates normally broadcast each and everyday during the week ? ATV viewers will now be forced to tune into the other station where CBC tends mainly to run world international news and a small select choice of Provincial news, and also lengthy live news conferences put on by the PM or other members of the Liberal party ?
Aside from terminating all weekday ATV Noon hour news shows, CTV has also downsized in half the very popular and iconic, 'ATV live at five' 5 P.M. local community news program, (prompting long time popular host Jason Baxter to seek early retirement) ? Adding to the devastating loss, Bell has also terminated all weekend Saturday and Sunday local news reports that currently run on ATV ? The cancellation and elimination of so much of the local news normally broadcast in Atlantic Canada will surely threaten the safety and security especially now that there will be a 24 hour local news blackout for 2 full days each and every weekend and as much as 3 consecutive days every holiday long weekend ? And so it seems that arch rival CBC has taken over the major share of prime time live local news programming in the Maritimes ? However, CBC has instead covered a relatively unknown Women's tennis sports event named after the Battle of Sexes winner and Women in sports advocate Billie Jean King that is being held overseas ? www.flickr.com/photos/74039487@N02/54147303159/in/album-7...
Aug 22 2024, While NHL heros past and present like Wayne Gretzky, Austin Matthews and Connor McDavid can be found in TV gambling commercials, online gambling ads and huge billboards endorsing and promoting sports gambling, the Minister of hypocrisy, oops, I mean the Libral Minister of Health Mark Holland and his Government pass legislation to open up access to massive gambling in Canada ? But Holland seems to be more worried about Zonnic, a smoking cessation product that is currently sold only to those over 19 and always kept hidden away from view under the counter in stores ? Holland attacks and bans the sale of Zonnic as he proclaims in a reherence to Zonnic, that "All the stuff that's clearly designed to target youth — it's over !" ?
Targeting our youngsters to gamble ? Fans are confused ? After Connor McDavid and other NHL Superstar heroes play starring roles in glamorous new bet MGM ads that promote gambling numerous complaints were filed. And so they eased away from this image of a Sports hero who encourages and participates in gambling although McDavid's image itself was never seperated from the gambling vice or the lucrative gambling industry ? A new corrected version now shows Connor as an ambassador for safe and responsible gambling when you gamble ? But isn't it still gambling ? see news article, "Connor McDavid's latest gambling ad with Bet MGM sparks outrage among his fans,"

Demolition permits have been issued for two General Iron Industries properties: 1909 N. Clifton Ave. (actually located on N. Kingsbury Street) and 1910 N. Clifton Ave. (on the other side of fenced-in property). Demolition permits were also issued for General Metals properties at 1806 and 1836 N. Kingsbury St. The controversial General Iron facilities had been closed since January 2021 and had sought to move to E. 116th Street on the city’s far Southeast Side. The city has since rescinded that permit. The North Side property was the scene of a massive explosion in 2020, which hastened calls for the city to shut down the scrap operations.
The four-story 1909 building is 76,000 square feet. The 1910 property, although listed as a one-story building, is being marketed as three land parcels totaling 20.3 acres.
