Rail Adventure's 43480 emerges from the Great Western booking hall which spans the lines between platforms 2 and 3 at Tyseley at dusk on a chilly Friday evening. The 125 Group in association with RA and Chiltern Railways had organised this tour reminiscent of the Master Cutler in connection with the 125th Anniversary of the opening of London Marylebone. 1Z46 was due a crew change here and with that duly completed the tour departed this delightful station which is packed with period features of the railways of yesteryear.

Set off on foot yesterday late afternoon with just 45 minutes or so remaining on the daylight clock. Wanted to be outside as the sky began the transition from daytime to nightfall. We're a couple weeks past the winter solstice, and the sun is now setting noticeably (though not significantly) later. The twilight phase is still dramatically short in comparison to summer. Even after all these years, it is still exhilarating to witness the process unfolding, to literally watch as night descends upon the village. In those moments, everything changes, light, shadow, backlighting, color...and it all feels simultaneous and continuous. Familiar scenes can take on weird appearances. A dramatic scene pops up right before you then vanishes within seconds, all because the lighting changed. I love the energy of these moments and find it a great time to shoot. It's a very impulsive time for me; I'm looking here, suddenly I'm distracted and looking over there. I seldom remain in one spot for more than a minute or so. I prefer to keep moving and adapting. What attracted me to this scene was the sense of silhouetting. Put me in mind of a cutout, like paper dolls. My visual sense of depth perception seems to fade with the daylight. Space is compressed as the foreground texture is lost. There's a sense of simplification as all that remains is light and dark.

La cité Aubry. En lisant ce nom, vous avez peut-être imaginé des tours grisâtres, des esplanades bétonnées, un lieu mal fréquenté… En réalité, la cité Aubry est une petite rue pavée dans le 20e arrondissement de Paris, dans laquelle les habitants se sont réapproprié un terrain pour y installer un jardin partagé. Ces jardins collectifs deviennent de plus en plus populaires en Île-de-France !
La cité Aubry est une ancienne cité ouvrière. Au 19e siècle, Paris avait conservé une organisation moyenâgeuse : rues étroites, insalubres, qualité de l’air médiocre. C’est à cette période que le préfet Haussmann transforme totalement la ville pour la moderniser, à travers la création de grands boulevards et avenues, de parcs et jardins (parc des Buttes-Chaumont, parc Montsouris, etc). Évidemment, cette révolution urbaine n’est pas sans conséquence pour la population : les loyers de la capitale explosent et les ouvriers ne parviennent plus à s’y loger.
Une volonté délibérée d’Haussmann, qui expliquait que le coût élevé de la vie était bien pratique pour « défendre Paris contre l’invasion des ouvriers de la province ». C’est à ce moment là que des cités ouvrières ont vu le jour. Dans le 20e, on trouvait ainsi la cité Aubry et la Villa Riberolle. En général, un riche industriel investissait dans un terrain et y installait non seulement sa production (ateliers) mais aussi des logements pour ses travailleurs.
Aujourd’hui, on peut dire que les tendances se sont inversées : ces petites ruelles pavées à l’atmosphère intimiste sont souvent plus prisées que les grands immeubles haussmanniens ! La cité Aubry a conservé ce mélange entre l’époque ouvrière et ses logements de bric et de broc… et des constructions récentes.
Il y a un peu plus d’un an, les habitants ont récupéré le terrain d’une usine désaffectée et ont commencé à l’aménager pour en faire un jardin partagé. Le principe : il comporte des lopins de terre communs, sur lesquels chacun peut planter ce qu’il veut et se servir… et quelques parcelles individuelles où, là aussi, chacun fait ce qui lui plaît. On trouve aussi bien des fleurs que des salades, des herbes aromatiques que des fraises, des plantes carnivores que des fèves.
Ajoutez à tout ça du street art, des brouettes, des chaises… et vous obtenez une ambiance unique !
Les habitants y organisent des apéros, des barbeuks... J'y retournerai au printemps quand il sera fleuri, c'est au bout de ma rue.

Sawfly, Argidae ustulata.
Length; 7 to 10 mm.
Flight period; May – July.
Habitat; Hedgerows, woodland rides, etc.
Distribution; Widely distributed in Britain, though seemingly not particularly common.
Arge ustulata is a largely brown species with a bronze/green sheen. The stigma is bicolorous, being clear yellow at the apex (including the marginal veining) and dark brown at the base. The subcosta and radial vein are pale yellow.
The larvae live on various trees and shrubs, (willows, birches and hawthorn), whilst the adults will take nectar and pollen from flowers such as Hogweed.
Sawflies fall within a group of insects called the Hymenoptera, which includes the bees, wasps, ants and sawflies.
Sawflies undergo a complete metamorphosis in a similar way to butterflies and moths. In the typical life-cycle, the adult, (imago), lays eggs into a notch cut into the membrane of a leaf. A caterpillar-like larva emerges and feeds on the leaf, undergoing several moults as it grows. Once fully grown, the larva undergoes a final moult and becomes a non-feeding eonymph. The eonymph will burrow into soil and create a pupal cavity or it may spin a silken cocoon in leaf litter. Most species overwinter in this pre-pupal form before entering a short phase as a pupa in the Spring, emerging as an adult after a few weeks.

Founded in 1642, Kagetsu is perhaps the oldest restaurant in Nagasaki. Located in the old red light district of Maruyama, Kagetsu to this day serves exquisite shippoku cuisine, combining the best of Chinese, Western and Japanese cooking, embodying the spirit of Nagasaki's position as the gateway to Japan during the approximate 200 years of national seclusion in the Edo period. During this time, only the Dutch and Chinese were allowed the right to trade with Japan, and it was all done in Nagasaki.
Being the premier restaurant in Maruyama, Kagetsu had a very distinguished list of guests, both foreign and Japanese, including Sakamoto Ryoma and other revolutionaries who helped plot the downfall of the Shogunate. In a drunken state of excitement one night, Ryoma drew his sword and hacked away at some woodwork. The scars are still visible. And unlike the sword scars at the Teradaya in Kyoto, these scars are the real deal. So in case you are wondering, yes,Kagetsu survived the atomic bombing with minimal damage. It's location is protected by steep hills, which sheltered it from the shock waves.
Maruyama still has an active geisha community and it possible to arrange for geisha entertainment at Kagetsu while enjoying the amazing cuisine.
Was officially opened on 7th September 1738 and is one of Norway’s best preserved churches from the Baroque period. The church is richly decorated by Erik Wallin in 1740-45. Knut Haugland was the former guide in the church and has written the book about Sollia church. He died 87 years old, and was guiding till his last year. A youger citizen of the Sollia community has now taken over the guide service (must be ordered in advance, unless joining Venabu's guided tours on Friday afternoons in summer).
The history of how the area was first settled by four families and their treks across the mountains to the church in Ringebu prior to the building of Sollia church is a fascinating story, even to those not usually keen on church visits!!

Sefton Park is a public park in south Liverpool, England. The park is in a district of the same name within the Liverpool City Council Ward of Mossley Hill, and roughly within the historic bounds of the large area of Toxteth Park. Neighbouring districts include modern-day Toxteth, Aigburth, Mossley Hill, and St Michael's Hamlet.
The park is 235 acres (0.95 km2) in area[1] and has been designated a Grade II* Historic Park by English Heritage[citation needed] making it one of three such parks in the city, along with the nearby Princes Park and St James Cemetery.
History
The site of the park was once within the boundaries of the 2,300-acre (9.3 km2) Royal Deer Park of Toxteth which became "disparked" in 1591. The land eventually came under the control of the Earl of Sefton.
As Toxteth rapidly grew, the green fields and woodland of Toxteth Park grew into narrow streets and courts packed tiny uninhabitable houses where the air was stagnant, there was little or no sanitation and running water consisted of one tap in the middle of the court. At the same time there was demand for large aristocratic mansions in the South of Liverpool. In 1862 the Borough Council Engineer recommended a site for this development. An Act of Parliament[which?] in 1864 permitted corporations to borrow sums of money up to half a million pounds to be repaid over thirty years. This allowed steps to be taken towards the purchase of land for Sefton Park. In 1867 the Council purchased 375 acres (1.52 km2) of land for the development of the park for £250,000 from the Earl of Sefton.
Even though it was recognised by politicians that clean, fresh open spaces were now regarded as necessity there was an outcry from the public that £250,000 was extravagant and wasteful. As with neighbouring Princes Park plots of land on the perimeter were sold for housing which helped in the funding of the layout of the park.
Soon after, a European competition was launched to design a grand park. 29 entries were received and the competition was won by a French landscape architect Édouard André with work on the design also undertaken by Liverpool architect Lewis Hornblower. The park was opened on 20 May 1872 by Prince Arthur who dedicated it "for the health and enjoyment of the townspeople".
The Park design is based on circular, oval and marginal footpaths, framing the green spaces, with two natural watercourses flowing into the 7-acre (0.028 km2) man-made lake. Hornblower’s designs for the park lodges and entrances were elaborate structures, and included follies[specify], shelters and boathouses. The parkland itself included a deer park and the strong water theme was reflected by the presence of pools, waterfalls and stepping stones. The Park, its exclusive villas and ornamentation reflected the grandeur of the City during its mid Victorian period when Liverpool was the second city of the Empire.
The perimeter road's outer edge is lined with Victorian buildings constructed to around 1890, and Edwardian houses. Additional development of the park continued with the construction of the iron bridge in 1873.
The park had a gallops[specify] which led to it being nicknamed "the Hyde Park of the North" but was always referred to by locals as "The Jockey Sands".[citation needed]
A major park improvement programme was undertaken in 1983 prior to International Garden Festival.
Sporting uses
Sefton Park Cricket Club moved their ground to the park in 1876 and WG Grace was amongst the three Gloucestershire players who made up a "South of England" team who won there in 1877. The park also has tennis courts, a bowling green, a popular jogging circuit and local league football is a regular weekend fixture. It is also used every November to hold the European Cross Country Championships trial races for the British team.
Entertainment uses
The park has also been a site for Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's summer pops season, Africa Oyé and the Moscow State Circus. Bands have also played at the park in the 80s such as Echo and the Bunneymen.
Restoration
In 2005 the park received provisional approval for a major £5 million Heritage Lottery funded renovation project which involves the refurbishment and improvement of many of the park's features. The work began in June 2007 was expected to be completed in summer 2009. This work was very controversial with some regular users of the park as it included destroying trees and breeding sites of birds.[2] The work led to the formation of the "Friends of Sefton Park" campaigns.
Notable features of the park
Palm House
This is a Grade II* three-tier dome conservatory palm house designed and built by MacKenzie and Moncur of Edinburgh which opened in 1896. Liverpool millionaire Henry Yates Thompson (the great nephew of the founder of Princes Park) gifted £10,000 to the city to fund the construction. It was designed in the tradition of Joseph Paxton's glass houses and was stocked originally with a rich collection of exotic plants.
During the Liverpool Blitz of May 1941 a bomb fell nearby and shattered the glass. It was reglazed in 1950 at a cost of £6,163 with costs covered by War Restoration funds. A period of decline and deterioration culminated in its closure in the 1980s on grounds of safety.
In June 1992, a public meeting was held highlighting the dereliction and calling for restoration. A petition was presented to the City Council by what had become the "Save the Palm House" campaign. A public fund raising campaign was established, with a "sponsor a pane" programme generating over £35,000. This led directly to the conversion of Save the Palm House into a registered charity (Friends of Sefton Park Palm House). The Palm House was partially repaired and reopened in 1993. It was fully restored at a cost of £3.5 million with Heritage Lottery and European funding and reopened in September 2001. It is now both a popular visitor attraction offering free and paid-for public entertainment and is venue for hire.
The eight ‘corners’ of the Palm House are marked by statues by the French sculptor Leon-Joseph Chavalliaud. These include explorers Captain Cook, Christopher Columbus, navigators Gerardus Mercator and Henry the Navigator, botanists and explorers Charles Darwin, Carl Linnaeus and John Parkinson and landscape architect Andre le Notre. Inside the Palm House are two sculptures by Benjamin Edward Spence "Highland Mary" and "The Angel's Whisper".
The grounds of the Palm House feature a statue of Peter Pan which was one of the last works by the British sculptor Sir George Frampton. This is Grade II listed and is a replica of a similar statue given as a gift for the visiting public to Kensington Gardens by author J.M. Barrie. The statue was donated to the park by George Audley in 1928 and was unveiled in the presence of Barrie. It originally sat in Sefton Park but was damaged in the 1990s. It was restored at Liverpool's Conservation Centre, and returned to the more secure location of the Palm House's grounds in December 2005.
Shaftesbury Memorial and Eros Fountain
This is Grade II listed and situated in the centre of the Park next to the cafe and former site of the aviary. The fountain, made from bronze and aluminium, was unveiled in 1932 and is a replica of a memorial to Lord Shaftesbury created by Sir Alfred Gilbert in London's Piccadilly Circus. It was restored in 2008 with a new aluminium Eros statue replacing the original which now resides in Liverpool's Conservation Centre.
Grotto
An artificial cave also known as Old Nick's Caves. This was built around 1870 by French rockwork specialist M. Combaz. It includes a waterfall which flows into a mirror pond.
Other statues and facilities
The park features a Gothic drinking fountain and several prominent statues including a memorial to William Rathbone V by Sir Thomas Brock unveiled in 1887, and an obelisk, the Samuel Smith memorial located by the principal entrance to the Park. There is a bandstand, popular since the Victorian era, which is said[by whom?] to be the inspiration for The Beatles' song Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. An iron bridge was opened in 1873 which spans the Fairy Glen. There is a cafe in the centre of the park called the Aviary Cafe and a pirate themed children's play area opened in 2009.
Former features of the park
Aviary
An aviary was introduced to the park in 1901 and was home to many exotic birds. After falling into disuse in the 1990s, the old cages were removed during the restoration project and replaced with a new curved viewing point overlooking new outside planting.
The Concert
The park also boasted a small open-air theatre – "The Concert" – near the café which featured singers, magicians and talent contests to entertain local children during the summer holidays. This was removed in the 1970s.
Boating lake
The lake was a popular venue for boating until the 1970s, with a jetty and boat hire facilities. The lake was totally emptied in 2007 for the extensive renovation work and all of the fish (which included specimen weights of carp, tench, roach, pike and golden orf)[citation needed] were caught with large nets and sent to various locations across the UK. Following its restoration, the lake was refilled in 2010. Turtles have also been spotted in the lake.
Others
There was a small pirate ship located in one of the lakes until the early 1990s when it was removed due to falling into disrepair.

This stele records a decree issued by the pharaoh Nectanebo I (reigned 380-362 BC) granting increased subsidies to the temple of Neith, the goddess of war and creation, in Sais, the city farther south on the Nile.
The stele was discovered in the sunken temple of Amun-Gerbe, the most important religious sanctuary of Thonis-Heracieion.

I wonder who the inquisitive child is? Does anyone recognise themselves? They would probably be around 52 now an appropriate age for a Western fan maybe]! I spent 2 weeks of that summer in Torbay and had a bedroom which overlooked Torquay station.

London Marylebone station on 14th January 1985, and nothing had really changed to the structure of the station since the steam era. BR Class 115 DMUs forming services to and from Aylesbury stand at the buffers during the middle of the day; nothing remarkable about this, just another day at this former Great Central Railway London terminus. These units plied the route day in, day out for over thirty years, between 1961 and 1992.

The Belum Caves are located in Kurnool District in the state of Andhra Pradesh.There is a sizeable Buddha statue near on a hillock near the Belum caves.Relics of the Buddhist period were found here.Belum Caves are geologically and historically important caves. There are indications that Jains and Buddhists monks occupied these caves centuries ago. Many Buddhists relics were found inside the caves.One of the caverns at Belum is known as the "Meditation Hall", which was used by Buddhist monks.

A volte mi vergogno di lei,di portarla in società, e la lascio a casa.Le faccio gli occhi severi e lei si rifugia a dormire nel lampadario.Sì,vive in un lampadario,nella stanza più segreta della mia mente...
A volte invece sono io a svegliarla,a chiederne con insistenza la presenza,i suoi giochi,la sua imprevedibilità.Oppure arriva a tradimento e, mentre il mondo mi chiede compostezza e "ruolo", mi mette un sorriso agli angoli degli occhi e devo lasciarla fare.
Etoile ha una veste di seta di ragno e calze a righe colorate,l'una diversa dall'altra,
piccole piccole ali sulla schiena di cui si serve,a volte,in modo impertinente e, tra i capelli,mille campanellini d'argento.Quando li muove tintinnano allegri e mettono voglia di sorridere.
Così,se a volte sorrido senza motivo,so che Etoile si sta pettinando...
o vuole scacciare la tristezza che si avvicina alla sua stanza...
Etoile mangia come una fata...briciole di biscotto,qualche nocciola,
un po' di succo di mirtilli che beve dal mio ditale.Mangia nei posti più strani,ma adora farlo nelle tue tasche o in fondo alla tua giubba...se senti un fastidioso pizzicorino nei posti più strani è certamente Etoile che rovista alla ricerca di qualche briciola o che fa pulizia con la sua scopina dopo aver mangiato.
Fai attenzione ad accettare i suoi biscotti...hanno degli effetti imprevedibi,
perchè nell'impasto le cade sempre la sua polvere di fata.
Si racconta che possano far cambiare colore ai capelli e i signori perbene non amano i capelli color cipria.Si dice perfino che a qualcuno siano venute un paio d'ali in fondo alla schiena e che se ne sia dovuto andare in giro per un po' svolazzando a testa in giù.L'effetto per fortuna dura poco, ma negli orecchi poi ti restano gli acufeni di un riso cristallino...
Etoile adora regalare i suoi minuscoli pacchetti dei pensieri felici,sono così piccoli che si fa davvero fatica a tirare via il nastro e la carta che li avvolge,ma ne vale la pena.
Dentro ci potrai trovare un po' di pioggia,il rumore del mare,il suono di un carillon,un po' di pulviscolo preso da un raggio di sole...Lei è lì,rimarrà seria seria per tutto il tempo aspettando la tua sorpresa prima di volare via felice a confezionarne un altro.
E ha un'altra magia,la più bella per me...le ho visto trasformare in perle iridescenti le lacrime di un uomo, dopo avergliele raccolte in una mano...

Gare de Lille-Flandres
La gare de Lille-Flandres est une gare ferroviaire française des lignes de Paris-Nord à Lille (quatre autres lignes s'y embranchent à Fives) et de Lille aux Fontinettes. C'est la gare principale de la ville de Lille, située en centre-ville, dans le département du Nord, en région Hauts-de-France.
Le terme Flandres est accolé à son nom en 1993, lors de l'ouverture de la gare voisine de Lille-Europe (située sur la LGV Nord). Ce choix est dû à sa situation en Flandre française.
Elle est mise en service en 1848 par la Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord. C'est une gare de la SNCF, desservie par des TGV, des InterCity belges et des trains régionaux (notamment TER Hauts-de-France). La gare de Lille-Flandres est la plus grande gare TER de France en dehors de Paris ; elle est également la seconde gare de province quant à la fréquentation, après la gare de Lyon-Part-Dieu.

Le nouveau bâtiment est construit en utilisant les pierres de la façade d'origine de l'édifice, dû à Léonce Reynaud, ouvert en 1846 pour l'« embarcadère » de la gare du Nord à Paris. Néanmoins, comme il n'était constitué que d'un rez-de-chaussée, la compagnie, pour satisfaire les Lillois, lui a fait ajouter un étage et un fronton avec une horloge, l'ensemble étant de style néo-classique. Les nouvelles installations, mises en service en 1867, donnent sur une place de la gare récemment créée en face du nouveau bâtiment.

We know that ladybugs hibernate in the cold, but I even came across them in the park last month when the sun showed itself. It is also possible that this individual is looking for a new place for itself. It would be fair to say that I was surprised by the ladybug that I chanced upon on a snowdrop on a cloudy and cold morning. This is the photo I captured by quickly grabbing my camera from my car and taking it without a tripod. The delicate balance of nature never fails to amaze me.
Ladybugs, like many other insects, go through a period of dormancy during the winter months, known as hibernation. During hibernation, ladybugs typically seek out sheltered spots such as under leaf litter, in tree bark crevices, or inside buildings to protect themselves from the cold temperatures. They enter a state of reduced metabolic activity, conserving energy until warmer weather returns.
Ladybugs hibernate in groups, which provides them with added protection and warmth. They release a chemical signal that attracts other ladybugs to gather in clusters, known as aggregations. These aggregations can sometimes be quite large, with thousands of ladybugs huddled together.
As the weather begins to warm up in spring, ladybugs become more active and start to emerge from their hibernation sites. They begin searching for food and mates to start the reproductive cycle anew. This emergence from hibernation is often observed by people who may find ladybugs crawling out of their winter hiding spots and venturing into the open once again.
Ladybug populations in the UK can vary depending on factors such as habitat, climate, and food availability. While specific population numbers may not be readily available, ladybugs are common and widespread throughout the UK, with numerous species found across various habitats including gardens, parks, woodlands, and agricultural fields.
Ladybugs play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity. Some of the benefits they provide in natural life include:
Controlling nature's pests: Ladybugs are voracious predators of aphids, scale insects, mites, and other garden pests. By feeding on these pests, ladybugs help to keep their populations in check, reducing the need for chemical pesticides in agriculture and gardening.
Pollination: While ladybugs are primarily known as predators, some species also feed on pollen and nectar. As they move from flower to flower in search of food, they inadvertently aid in pollination, facilitating the reproduction of flowering plants.

La Miranda Sensorex II ( credo del 1972 ), è una delle tante reflex giapponesi analogiche di quel periodo ma si mette a fuoco anche dal mirino a pozzetto. Sembra in buone condizioni ma in realtà ha molti problemi, nel primo rullino di prova molte delle foto sono venute divise con altre per problemi di avanzamento della pellicola o nere per metà del fotogramma penso a causa di infiltrazioni di luce. Con il pozzetto ho scattato solo due foto ma non sono venute male e mi è piaciuto. Peccato per tutte le foto rovinate perché l' ho usata quasi sempre in condizioni difficili e senza esposimetro ( non funziona più ) e molte fotografie sembravano venute abbastanza bene. Questa reflex mi è stata regalata da un amico fotoreporter che in questi giorni sta seguendo in Sudamerica la Parigi Dakar.
