The idea being that if Throbbing Gristle can just make it up as they go along, then so can we, except it didn't quite work out that way due to a lack of preparation and great quantities of booze. Visual effects were later added to the recording in an effort to render it more interesting, but as they say, you can't polish a turd, and particularly not if you're attempting to polish it with wee.

The performances will be followed by the premiere screening of an original collaborative video work called Mem-Bunga (Flowering). The performances also feature a gamelan ensemble directed by Aaron Singer (UCR Gamelan Club). The video work will be shown at the end of the live performance in the Culver Screening Room together with Q&A about the making of TRANSiTORY.

Photos from the Rehearsal Performance of the Ann Arbor Dance Classics Benefit Show at the Saline High School on Saturday March 12th, 2022 (for the performance on Sunday the 13th). The show was called "Her Voice" - the 2022 Benefit Concert and Competition Showcase to benefit Growing Hope. The show also featured a performance from the University of Michigan First-Year Dance Company. The studio took all the safety precautions for the pandemic. All dancers and teachers wore face masks.
Alex and I went to UFest in the summer. I enjoyed checking out the vendors and bought a beautiful pair of earrings. Alex and I tried out our new two-person folding chair (very comfortable!) and watched the Ukrainian music and dance performances!

Le joik (prononciation : /joik/) est le chant traditionnel du peuple saami. Issus des traditions chamaniques, exécuté a cappella, parfois accompagné du tambour traditionnel, le joik est d’abord un chant à vocation spirituelle avant de devenir un mode d’expression du peuple saami à la fin du xxe siècle.
Le joik traditionnel se divise en trois grands styles de chant : le « luohti », le « vuolle » et le « leu’dd » selon l’origine géographique des tribus saami qui l’ont créé. Le chant, qui peut prendre des formes extrêmement variées, laisse une large place à l’improvisation du chanteur, appelé le joiker.
Un joik a pour fonction de décrire l’essence d’une personne, d’un lieu ou d’un animal. Ainsi, chaque homme ou femme saami possède sa mélodie qui est en quelque sorte son « portrait musical ». La caractéristique principale des joiks est l’utilisation de syllabes répétées à plusieurs reprises. Si certains joiks sont constitués de véritables textes compréhensibles, il existe également des formes dans lesquelles aucun mot n’est distinct, mais qui sont composées de murmures, d’interjections et d’imitations de cris animaux scandés sur une pulsation. Construit sur une échelle pentatonique, le joik porte les caractéristiques des styles de chants gutturaux des peuples montagnards. Il présente des similitudes importantes avec les chants traditionnels amérindiens ou encore avec les chants de gorge des peuples inuits ou des peuples d’Asie centrale.
