Went to take some macro images today with long time friend and fellow flickr tog Joe Micallef to Hunter Botanical Gardens (Heatherbrae, NSW; Australia).
This inquisitive connoisseur of photographic gear (aka Butcher Bird) took a liking of Joes kit!
Hope you like it too - the image; not his kit!!!
Thanks for any comments, views or favorites!
All royalties to go to Joe!! :-)
It always amazes me how patient kestrel can be in their search for their next meal. Whether they're up on a wire, metal pole, wooden stump, or up on a tree branch or stump ... they patiently remain ... very still except for the twitching of the tail up and down. Constantly keeping their eyes on the landscape beneath them, they are quite determined. Even in hover, they remain vigilant.
Such beautiful birds, they are the smallest of all North American's falcons. Dining on mice or other small rodents, they may also grab insects and smaller birds as well.
Happy weekend everyone!

I wish every animal and bird I try to photograph would have the patience to sit still until I get done fiddling with the camera and have the settings somewhat right. This barred owl did and after a few shots he took off, flew about 10 yards and perched again. Bless him/her.
The only birdsong in the garden this morning is that of the resident robin, singing from his concealed song perch in the heart of the bay tree He cocks his head and fixes me with his beady onyx eyes.

As has been observed by several noted photographers (one of whom is also a highly respected physician), Belted Kingfishers make lousy doctors because they have no patience. This one left her post overlooking Horsepen Bayou only a couple of seconds after establishing residency.
This osprey is banded with the number 61. Over the last week I have seen this bird at the Avila Pier and again near the butterfly grove in Pismo Beach where this photo was taken.
