Dale Chihuly has done more to revolutionise the perception of blown glass as an art form worldwide than any other artist.

Chihuly experiments ceaselessly with colour and technique. He indulges in extraordinary colour combinations and the most subtle of single hues. The purity of pigment in the Maize Persians and the delicacy of the Oxblood and White Persians, shown here, may surprise anyone more familiar with Chihuly’s highly coloured Macchia series, which he began in 1981, inspired by his desire to experiment with all 300 glass pigments available at that time. Technique is all with these Works, which feature the artist’s especially distinctive ‘lip—wrap’ - a traditional rim-strengthening method borrowed from historic Venetian glassmaking, which has become one of Chihuly’s personal trademark
