This image is inspired by my photographic friend Philippe de Feluy. He published an image under this title, and I am continuing this process by taking up the lead and by applying it to my self-portraits. So, where do I stand between reality and imagination? How should I present myself visually? In front of my car or the things I own, my bookshelf to highlight my academic affiliation? Dressed up formally or, as here, in casual clothing? Myself, as a lone individual or together with others and thus emphasising sociability? A bit wild and unkempt in order to demonstrate my distaste for blind conformity? Well, I chose the garden shed, the island, the last refugium, a place where the constraints are minimal. And I am holding a hammer. Should I not? An octogenarian with attitude? At least in private? An illusionary way to continue with the ideals I had half a century ago? You will have noticed by now that one side of the equation, "reality", is crumbling in speedy progression. It is the "imagination" bit that dominates. This image is pure imagination, a design to be used on a public stage where a play is being shown that can only be seen in my mind. I am not sure how Philippe would see things, but in my mind it is clear that when it comes to self-portraits we deal with our imagination and we must leave it to others to discover the reality of it. A calmness arises when we are in a quiet place with a sensory subject that brings our mental focus out of hiding and into the here and now.

I have written a short Facebook post that uses this image and the original image as examples of my opinion on artistic photography. It will give you a peek at how much changed in the post processing.

This photo has been in Explore on March 15, 2025. Highest position = #34. This is my 230th photo in Explore.

This, believe it or not, started out as an Infrared image. Carefully massaged into a false color Infrared to mimic a blue hour shot.

Time for a touch of minimalism. This is a little scene I found at Wellington Reservoir in Western Australia on an overcast day. The dead tree stump poking out of the water caught my attention especially and I decided to take few long exposures to create a subtle moody image.

KP TT #336 March 15 - March 22, 2024 thanks to xandram for the source images shown in the first comment box flic.kr/p/2pCMXUK and flic.kr/p/2pCLTp2

I find that shooting with a super wide angle lens almost forces you to look at things quite differently. I'm usually a stickler about level horizons, but I found myself having a bit of fun with looking at things on a different slant.

This is a small swampy area with Cypress trees, and lots of Duckweed growing on the surface of the stagnant water.

We found a cute little cafe for our cup of tea, called Changing Perceptions. Some info below, for those who are interested!

Changing Perceptions has quickly evolved from Godalming’s best kept secret to a popular and bustling Café and home interior shop. Located at the very top of the High Street this unique and vibrant social enterprise is just a stone’s throw away from the Meath. Meath clients are supported to up-cycle donated furniture in the on-site workshop which is then put on sale in the shop, with all profit going straight back to the charity. It is a very important part of the Meath’s philosophy to help dispel the stigma associated with epilepsy and to assist all of our clients to live alongside people from all walks of life, sharing similar experiences and hopes and dreams for the future.

This is my last photo from this trip, but don't worry, I have another couple of day trips to share!!

I found this old Serendipity pose, and its theme of perception seemed to go well with the stunningly revealing new dress from Aleutia that’s available now at The Secret Affair. I’m also showing off the B variant of the new Sangria hair by eXxEsS – I can’t believe how amazing it is!

Location: Coming soon.

A beautiful depiction of Ganesha, remover of obstacles and the lord of new beginnings.

I have mixed feelings about seeing deities and Buddhas in commercial settings such as a garden centres, alongside garden gnomes, dragons and flowerpot people.

But looking beyond to when these figures are in people's homes and gardens and giving them pleasure and maybe inspiring peaceful contemplation and then my mood changes to something more open to compassion.

Love, Light and abiding Peace to all sentient beings.

ACCIDENTS IN THE PERCEPTION OF TIME

"Modes of perception: between channels:

Wordless days, years, periods.

Centuries of drawing with black lead, or burnt sienna on the rock.

Restless scratches. Silhouettes of clumsy figures.

A tangle of lines (animals in motion).

Millennia of the word: winding of words around the body, lashing,

silhouettes of clumsy sentences. Space behind them.

Muting: and a surge of noisy images. Unravel. Span.

Look like you understand.

A hand for joy: draw.

A hand.

A hand: survive, kill.

A mouth for the voice (play, cheat). Open. For someone else.

Like with like (Picasso in the cave). And bridges!

For yourself. For someone else."
