How funny that the day I plan to share my New Holland Honeyeater, my bird-loving friend Dave put up a photo of one! I must admit I've seen them on his photostream before and have always thought they are lovely looking birds!

Finished! I think this may have been my most complicated miniature drawing yet! I draw a lot of food, so it was fun to work with some of the colors that I don't get to use as often!
Polychromos and Pablos on Grafix Drafting Film - 2"x1.25"
Many thanks to Sally Robertson for the reference photo!
"Pinwheel Galaxy and Crater - Vittorio Marella”, 6” x 4”, 2021, graphite, dirt and wood on Schoellerhammer drawing board mounted on MDF
I thought that this drawing was finished (see below), but when I was attempting to drill a key hole slot in the back of the piece (ie. Lesson # 37b - always drill a key hole slot prior to making the art) the drill press took creative matters in it’s own hands and—as predictably as the titlular meteorific crater references—plunged a hole clear through the panel! You can imagine my (%£€#¥<@&$:/!!!!) response. Ultimately it seemed fitting to welcome that physical (in contrast to rendered) “anomaly“ as part of the work: I filled the hole with a piece of wooden dowel, but made no effort to mask the addition.
At one point the subject of this work, the Venetian painter Vittorio Marella, was studying astrophysics, but eventually turned to a wholehearted focus on painting. That said this little work—part of my on-going project of portraiture as a kind of meditation on vocation / “voice”—suggests a metaphoric fittingness of that astronomical fascination.
The drawing’s composition nods to early (Medieval / Renaissance) images of astronomers.

From my current Voice & Site drawing project.
Finished the drawings and am contemplating how to procedure with color, pencil or ink. I had a lot of fun creating this page.
Time for an animal drawing, and this is a bob cat kitten from daughter-in-law Sophie's photostream (see here)

MY TRIBUTE TO RABINDRA NATH TAGORE
This image of Great Poet was drawn from a rare photograph taken during his illness. This is one of my pencil drawing. I created filaments of white hairs and beards by erasing shaded part of the image with the help of a sharpen eraser.
Another back view of a woman! I found some hair photos on google and have saved a copy for reference. I don't know for sure but have a feeling the back of my hair looks a bit like this if I don't dry it properly! (Or maybe it's wishful thinking! But my hair is naturally kinky)

Churches of North-West Essex
The start of another one of my collections
Recently in my travels I have come across another book. This one is entitled ‘The Parish Churches of North-West Essex and are drawn by Charles Grigg Tait and presumably the words are by the same person.
This is an attempt to replicate his drawings with my photos, these representations will not be exactly as positioned as most have been taken prior to me finding the book.
As usual, I hope you enjoy them.
St Peter and St Paul's church is one of the six round towered churches in Essex.
A recent drawing of some Portsmouth landmarks: the mast of HMS Victory, the Guildhall, Spinnaker Tower, Southsea Castle, bandstand, War memorial, Round Tower and Cathedral.
I actually did this drawing a couple of weeks ago, so I can't be totally sure what it is - probably Quick Step! (It's kind of based on Matt and Sophie, although I can't imagine them ballroom dancing!)
Charcoal and pencil on paper about 24" x 18"

The Grand Island East Channel Light is a lighthouse located at the southern tip of Grand Island in Lake Superior just north of Munising, Michigan. It was placed in service in 1868 and was intended to lead boats from Lake Superior through the channel east of Grand Island into the Munising Harbor. Print Size 13x19 inches. HCS.
I put out a request for hands. This was sent in from one of my friends from a previous career. Matt is a model and can be found on Instagram.
Since I hurt my ankle I've found it hard to sit still with my leg elevated, but last week I started watching Netflix's 'The Crown' (I cheated and started at series 4, but will probably go back one day!). I have mixed feelings about it - it's an enjoyable watch and goes a little way towards explaining periods in recent history that I didn't take much notice of at the time, however the way the Royals talk to each other I take with a pinch of salt. If you've seen it, what are your thoughts?
I decided to have a go at drawing my favourite member of the Royal Family, not everyone's cup of tea, but I do believe her heart was in the right place. I realise this isn't totally accurate, but hopefully she's recognisable in some way! She visited my city, Portsmouth, a few times, although I never got to see her here. My sister did though, and claims she smiled at my sister's hat!
