The Ontonagon River flows toward Lake Superior on the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The main stem of the river is 25 mi and is formed by a confluence of several longer branches, portions of which have been collectively designated as a National Wild and Scenic River. The Ontonagon River's principal tributaries are its West, South, Middle and East branches, all of which flow in part through the Ottawa National Forest. Below the confluence of its various branches, the river flows generally north-northwestwardly through Ontonagon County to the village of Ontonagon, where it flows into Lake Superior. This shot was taken on the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River east of the town of Paulding just below Bond Falls. Best viewed LARGE.
Notice the snow on the pines in the background. It came down pretty good this morning and it was beautiful.
After being rained out a few weeks ago, the UP rewarded us with perfect day time puffy-cloud blue skies and crystal clear, starry nights. We took advantage of the mild weather as we set up tripods and aimed for the stars above Bond Falls. Gotta admit, we got craps in our necks oogling the billions of stars.
I've been having trouble getting your pictures to show up on flickr, so will catch up as they appear (I've been getting gray boxes).
Bond Falls is located on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River east of Paulding in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The water level is controlled by a dam, and a steady flow over the falls is maintained for scenic reasons. The river cascades over a dark, wide rim of ancient volcanic rock, then curves and disappears into a concrete channel that helps minimize erosion. Finally, the water spreads out for dramatic effect at the falls where the river drops almost 50 feet over a wide series of stair-like boulders. Best viewed LARGE.

Bond Falls is located north of Watersmeet, Michigan, near the town of Paulding. It has easy access and good flows year around. Fall is my favorite time to photograph this waterfalls, but it is beautiful all year around, even in the winter.
Bond Falls is in the western Upper Peninsula off of Bond Falls Road, east of the Ontonagon County village of Paulding, Michigan. It is created as the middle branch of the Ontonagon River tumbles over a thick belt of fractured rock, dividing it into numerous small cascades. The total drop of the falls is 50 feet. Above the main falls are a series of cascades and rapids that drop a total of 20 feet. The water level is controlled by a nearby dam, and a steady flow over the falls is maintained for scenic reasons. Of course during the spring snow melt the flow is much higher. I’ve been to Bond Falls many times, but this is the first time I visited in the fall.

. . . this one's for the Christmas card! A doe and her kids were browsing in the side yard of a home in late afternoon. Their natural curiosity along with their instinct to get behind Momma, made for a fun family portrait of this White-tailed deer clan. Taken on Nov. 21, 2014 in Paulding, Upper Michigan, the day before gun/deer hunting season.
