I snapped some photos of Rosie today, whom I walk three times a week for a local family. She's a very sweet Boston terrier, with a stubborn streak. She's also very smart, and plays with advanced puzzle toys. She's a happy girl, but looks serious here, because I'm not giving her a treat right away.

I suppose Atka was being very patient with me as I was photographing him. I just couldn't get enough photos of this wonderful dog. I was told a long time ago by a great friend, that if you're good at something, stick with it. I seem to be better at photographing dogs than anything else and I love to get up close and personal with them. I seem to have a knack for that.

Hope you all don't get bored seeing all these dog photos..especially the ones of Atka !!

I went to Bellevue last night. I don't know why. That's probably the 3rd time I've been to Bellevue since moving here 1.5 years ago. The other two times I've been to Bellevue I had to visit the Apple store.

Spider (Wolf?) waiting in a buttercup.

Wild Grape Vines curl and grow in such exotic and beautiful shapes.

Last fall I was able to pick enough of these to make 5 pints of grape jelly.

I was able to get more to mix with my wild apple juice and make another batch.

If there was a bayou equivalent to the lawn ornament, this would certainly be it. Great Blue Heron motionlessly waiting for an unwary fish to pass within reach of that long neck and dagger bill on Horsepen Bayou at sunrise.

One of the biggest bull I have ever seen. He has eight tines on each antler. Is this unusual?

Piglet was very pleasant to photograph today. She' available for adoption at The Cat Connection in Brighton, Massachusetts. She's a few years old, and is a very good girl.

This little guy apparently fell into the stream below earlier today and was rescued by a kind passerby. He now waits patiently for his owner to come looking for him.

This polite Blue Tit was waiting for his turn to drink some sap or whatever is flowing out from the tree.....there were lots of Nuthatches, Blue Tits, Long-tailed Tits and Great Tits jumping all over the place, hurrying and drinking like there's no tomorrow, while this little guy stood and waited for his turn politely.

Poor Dakota, this past weekend was not much fun for her. I had managed to escape winter without coming down with the flu or even hardly a cold - or so I thought! Let's just say I slept like Rumplestiltskin for the past few days! Luckily I had a friend who went out of her way to take Dakota for some nice longer walks. Today I'm feeling much better but there's a thunderstorm outside ...poor thing, I'm planning a good hiking expedition for us later in the week to make up for all the laying around :)

Teasel a young Springer bitch waiting patiently for her dinner. Our older Spaniels have since taught her to shuffle & wriggle while she waits.

This 20-second exposure was taken 40 minutes before the sun actually crested over the horizon. I was securing my spot and readying myself for the eventual break of day at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park last summer.

A couple of determined salmon fishermen waiting for a bite. The Slammin Salmon Derby is currently being held.

Moss being a very good boy up on the moor, no prizes for guessing who we were with ;o)

Half Dome From Snow Creek, Sunset. Yosemite, California. Peter was a consumate professional, and I was in awe of someone who was making his living working as a photographer, always busy, always travelling. He seemed so self assured, and seemed to bounce from heel to heel ready to start the next project. It was all film then, no digital, no instant feedback. He solved exposure and composition problems like it was the easiest thing, while I, trying to become serious about my photography, struggled to figure out why some things came out good and others so wrong. He was so patient giving me answers, advice, and critique...and there were endless war stories of his job as a commercial photographer. Looking at my work from then, I don't know how, but I guess he saw some promise in me. When an opportunity came for a firm who needed some landscape work, he pushed me out there to be recognized as a photographer. For that I am eternally grateful. We'd instantly start in on equipment and techniques and artists whenever we met up, and I would sometimes bring him some of my prints, hoping to get feedback. He instinctively knew exactly what I had been drawn to in any photograph, and would sweep his hand over that part of an image like a magnet. It was always such a confirmation, so selflessly given. We both loved black and white, and of course we both loved Ansel...what photographers don't eventually beat that conversation to death? He told me more than once of a cherished trip he took to California; his awe, like mine, of Yosemite, and his quest for an original Adams print. I mostly do color work, but from the first time I timidly brought him a monochrome print to give me suggestions, his eyes lit up and his smile said it all. I floated off the floor getting that reaction from him. A couple of years ago, he got sick. I brought a black & white print to him in rehab, and watched his eyes light up, even though his words wouldn't come as easy as before. I did good. When I left, I sat in my car and cried, sad for my friend. A couple of weeks ago I ran into his son. I said I'd go up and bring him another print, because it had been awhile, and I had been remiss in not visiting. But of course I delayed, and I need say no more. There will be no replacing his swagger, his stories, his way of making you feel like you were the most important person for him to talk to. There is no replacing his inspiration. This is for Peter. You didn't know it was coming, and I'm sorry it's late.
