The entrance to what I like to call "The Torii Maze." It is a path around Mount Fushimi that contains thousands of myojin torii.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine in Fushimi, Kyoto. It is the head of all Japan's Inari shrines--famous for its many vermilion torii. There are over 10,000 torii on the property that stretch up the side of the mountain, Fushimi-yama. The gates are donations from people all over Japan. The shrine itself was established in 711 and is dedicated to the Shinto god of rice, Inari (his messenger is a fox). Inari has been depicted as a white fox who governs things such as metalwork, which is why we often see him associated with the great swordsmiths of Japan. Much of the structure was destroyed during the Onin War, but it was re-built as you see today.

A nice smooth path took me back to the waterside. However, suddenly it ended and I had to continue my way through a sand path, something my city bike isn't made for... ;)
A cool and breezy GST Voles day with Jamie Proud as ranger at Centenary Wood, Pulloxhill.
Today we are at Centenary Wood doing some path widening. The site is very muddy, so I would recommend wellies if you have them. Fencing contractors unavoidably caused some damage to the access ride, so I have been asked not to drive on site to try and avoid making it worse. As we have to carry everything, I am bringing a wheel barrow and we will limit ourselves to loppers and bow saws. There is a small area of bramble to slash as well if someone feels up to it.
Hope to see you all there.
Yours, Jamie Proud
Hi all,
Thank you for all your work today. We got all the main bits asked for completed, and some extra ride widening too. Next week you are at Sandy Smith. Tim will mail you with further details as there are a few things to do there.
Thanks again.
Yours, Jamie Proud
I am afraid I arrived late again and left early. It was as Jamie advised very wet and muddy. The pond by the road was full to the brim which was a surprise as often it is dry. I arrived just in time for T-up break with plenty of custard do-nuts. It was a beautiful morning and while checking out the Hazel coppice regrowth I surprised a Woodcock. Not much else was moving in the wood . Good to see you all again . Sue Young , who I saw last Tuesday, sends her best wishes.
