It really does look green around this time of year...

California, circa 2001.

Taken with a Minolta XD-11 and a Sigma 35-70mm f3.5/4.5.

Incidentally, the boardwalk you can see in the distance there is, um, a bit scary.

Path leads to a nice little house in the background.

The plywood occupies the entire path the window will traverse as it goes up and down.

I was very excited to confirm that it stays within the confines of the door skin!

Every chance I get, I ride my electric bike up and down some of the beautiful trails off Tennessee Valley, from Oakwood Valley to Haypress Camp and Chapparal, in the peaceful Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

In the spring, the valley is lush and green, blooming with colorful lupine, checker-bloom, blue-eyed grass, California buttercup, and California poppy. I often cross paths with other hikers and bikers, and it feels good to share this experience with them, even while we keep at a safe distance from each other, due to the Coronavirus.

I try to go biking every day, to clear my head and stay healthy during the pandemic. We are incredibly lucky to have so many beautiful trails right in our own backyard. And I am grateful that our health crisis is nudging us all to exercise in nature, connect with our neighbors and live more sustainably.

New York Power Authority’s Smart Path clean energy transmission infrastructure project in the North Country has now been completed and successfully energized. The Smart Path project is an upgrade of 78 miles of transmission lines that span from Massena in St. Lawrence County to Croghan in Lewis County. The milestone helps put New York on track to meet its nation-leading clean energy goals, outlined in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, including 70 percent renewable energy generation by 2030 and a zero-emissions electricity sector by 2040.
