Partners Statue at Tokyo Disneyland

Buckram is little k.'s boy

An exclusive figure from a Lego book or movie that isn't Batman?!?! Hell yes!

The Green Lantern Corps newest human members. These two were apart of the Justice League and had their own comic run for a few years now. However, Jessica joined the Justice League Odyssey team in space and Simon went...somewhere. Whatever the case, these two have a great dynamic. Their best friends and great partners.

Let's have more Minifigures that aren't Batman. And if you need to make Batman, make it a cool one like Flashpoint or TDKR. No one wants pirate Batman.

With all the unfamiliarity I experienced at Disneyland, being in the hub and shooting Partners I felt right at home. In fact, it really made me miss when Walt Disney World still had trees in the hub and when it was more compact. I understand why they did it but the hub at Walt Disney World just feels like a monstrosity now and the Disneyland hub feels very intimate. The trees with the sparkly lights just add so much.

I have to admit I'm a sucker for the classic Wishes shot in front of Partners. I'm not a big fan of the 2.5 hour wait to pull it off however. When I arrived this area already had people sitting at almost every spot around Partners. I was just able to get a spot, though I wasn't able to sit down to wait however as the family sitting next to the open spot decided their gift bag needed a spot more than an actual person. In fact they seemed quite bothered I setup near them at all, but I figured they'd get over. Funny enough a nice family from the UK showed up a bit later and long story short they moved their bag and moved a bit further down. I have to give props to them as well as the people to my right as they could have easily opted to stand in a way that would have blocked my shot but they were nice enough to give me the little spot I had zoned off.

I especially wanted to shoot here now that I had an ND filter for the Nikon 14-24 2.8. I've shot from here with that lens before but I'm really not a huge fan of the results I got sans ND. I shot this using a Progrey 7 stop ND which allowed me to shoot this extra long exposure, which was 114 seconds. Since I had such a strong filter I shot at f4.5 to have a brighter exposure on the foreground and crowd. Shooting so wide (14mm) this isn't really a problem either as everything is still pretty sharp and in focus. Ultimately I'm really happy with the Nikon 14-24 2.8 and Progrey ND filter combo. I got several shots from Wishes I was happy with and several from Illuminations earlier in the week. I'll be sharing them over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

I tend not to include people in my pictures, but this time I made an exception, and I like the result.

My partner a.k.a dog Jack! He accompanies me from time to time when I'm out taking photos.

The sky before sunset was a gorgeous shade of pink the day I was at Disneyland. I walked around the Partners statue and took a bunch of shots.

Todd & Eve

[the night before Todd's new coffee shop opens]

E. --- Look at us. You're about to launch a new shop. I'm running F2K. We're like this towns new power couple.

[she leans in and they kiss]

T. --- I'm just glad we're both finally closer together. No one likes long distance.

E. --- I know I don't.

T. --- Finally getting to work just minutes away from the best girlfriend a guy could ask for...

[she pulls away]

E. --- You know I hate when you call me that.

T. --- Seriously... What is so wrong with me calling you my girlfriend?

E. --- I'm not some little schoolgirl with a crush. "Girlfriend" just sounds like some term male chauvinist came up with to make themselves feel dominant.

T. --- You've got to be kidding me? No one thinks that.

E. --- You and I... we're equals in this relationship.

T. --- Us being boyfriend and girlfriend is equal.

E. --- No! When I hear those terms it implies that somehow you; boyfriend, are dominate to me; girlfriend and that is just not going to work! What we have... transcends those chauvinistic titles.

T. --- Okay, so what are we then?

[she thinks to herself for a moment then smiles]

E. --- We're partners!

T. --- Partners?

E. --- Yes!... We're life partners.

T. --- Umm, I must have missed the memo. When did we become a same sex couple?

E. --- It's not my fault they have it all figured out. ...What do you say [she kisses him on the neck] the two of us go back to my office [she puts her lips to his ear and whispers...] and we hammer out the details of this partnership?

T. --- You know... now that I think about it "partners" doesn't sound all that bad.

E. --- I told you.

I'm a bit surprised that I've never posted a shot of the Partners statue before, but nonetheless here's my first.

The Partners statue is an iconic statue at the center of most all of Disney's "Disneyland" style parks. The statue first showed up in Disneyland in 1993 to commemorate everything Walt Disney had accomplished which had, of course, humbly started with a mouse.

It's no secret that I have infinite respect for Walt Disney. If you don't "get" this whole Disney thing I would wager it's because you're not appreciating him. He was a creative genius and master of design: many consider him the first true UX (user experience) designer. My enjoyment of Disney's creations is no different than my enjoyment of, say, Apple products or a perfectly crafted tasting menu. I go to Disney theme parks to enjoy a masterfully designed experience. Walt Disney, and the legacy he left behind, still does it better than anybody else.

Marvel Legends Rogue; Marvel Legends Gambit

Here's your package partner! I apologize for my late mailing. Hope you like it! Could there possibly be something tucked inside.....

so partner...i'd cut out all the dresden pieces so it seemed silly to not sew them all together (any excuse to play with fabrics!)...doesn't mean it's for you if you don't want it, but i need to finish it before i let myself start on the second that's been swimming in my head...

(also, ever so slightly blurry...sorry...)

I have shot the Partner's statue a lot but I think this is my favorite shot I've taken of it thus far. Of course I did a lot of post processing to get it to where it is, but I think it was worth it, all 14 layer adjustments worth. Also, I'm trying out a new watermark. Chime in and tell me what you think. Thanks for looking everyone!

Love the tulips here. The Hub, Disneyland

It's been a little while since I've done a traditional Partners with Cinderella Castle shot so I figured it was time for one. Not much to say about a shot that has been done and talked about to infinity but I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for looking.

This image holds out the first names of my wife and myself. Eilene, although not a common spelling is said to mean "bringer of light". Although I did little with regard to photography before retiring 16 years ago she did bring "light" in all forms into our shared journey. If it's one thing anyone who is destined to pick up a camera needs it is light and Eilene has contributed greatly to my body of work. My name, John, is most often said to mean " ... graced" or favored by a higher power. Together we have had a lot of light and experienced much "grace". In a way the objects selected for this photo perhaps show how it works.

For our 40th Wedding anniversary a Chinese friend at work created a hanging ornament with an explanation for the arrangement and meaning of the Chinese characters to mean "Partnering Forever!" We have kept it along with his original attachment hanging prominently where we see it often. It's appropriately shared for this Smile on Saturday as we will celebrate our 57th anniversary in a few days. Happy SoS everyone.
