Acacia mangium is a fast-growing legume native to Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia that is tolerant to harsh sites and has been widely planted around the world. An alternative name is Racosperma mangium and a common name is brown salwood. The tree spreads through birds distributing seeds and has become invasive in many locations. It is NOT recommended for introduction to new islands or new areas where it is not already present. Acacia mangium has a Weed Risk Assessment score of 8. To learn more about invasiveness of plants in the Pacific see www.PlantPono.org.

Acacia mangium has very broad phyllodes (flattened leaf stalks), curly seed pods, white flowers on a linear inflorescence, and brown to grey heartwood. The wood is used for cabinetry, structural work, veneer, particleboard, and for pulp. Plantations in Southeast Asia are being decimated by the vascular wilt fungus Ceratocystis, which also causes Rapid Ohia Death in Hawaii.

Instructions (for a group of children)

1. Please remind your teacher to mix 1cup Borax and 4 cups water.

2. Place 1/2 teaspoon of the Borax solution in a 24 oz. red plastic bowl; the dark color makes the glue & water more visible.

3. Slowly drizzle 1 tablespoon of glue into the bowl. Do not stir the mix yet!

4. Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to the bowl. Wait approximately 10–15 seconds; then stir to mix; use a metal spoon to stir.

5. When you can no longer stir the mixture, place the mixture in your hands. (The mixture will be sticky and messy.)

6. Knead the mix to form a ball.

7. When you have shaped the ball toss it gently, horizontally, and underhand style against a smooth surface. For example, a folding Melamine banquet table placed on its side or a veneered particleboard kitchen cabinet door.

8. Store your bouncy ball in a zip-closing plastic bag once you are finished playing with it.

How does a curtain coater work?

The function of a curtain coater is achieved by guiding the object through a curtain of fluid between two conveys. An important part of this roller coater/coating machine is a tank of fluid, and from the tank falls a thin screen. For such coat/coating roller, the speed of the conveyor and the pump will affect the thickness of the coating layer. The amount of the liquid is estimated in advance in curtain coating.

What are the types of calender rolls?

From UV roll to roll coating/printing machine, calender rolls are an important part. Currently, coating machine manufacturers produce mainly three types of calender rolls. The first category is called solid rolls, commonly used on older calender stacks. So in reality, solid rolls are gradually replaced by another two types in more and more coating line machine, heat transfer or variable

crown rolls. Featured by the center-bored roll, modern heat transfer UV roller coater can achieve higher heat transfer rates. As for the variable crown rolls in UV roller coating machine, they are used for the compensation of the tendency of the bottom roll.

What is gravure coating?

Gravure coating is a technique, coating fluids of a variety of viscosities onto substrates. A gravure coater is required to help with the gravure coating. As a kind of flat roller machine or flatbed printer for wood, the function of a gravure coater is realized by applying the resin to an engraved roll. The method varies with different UV flatbed printer, concerning various blade structure, roll configuration, etc.

What is kiss coating?

Kiss coating is a technique, coating the surface of fabric with liquid resin. The design of UV roll coater used for kiss coating is relatively simple. The single coating roll installed in the UV roller coating machine is to make the bottom of the roll being submersed in such a pan with a coating. The resin used in UV roll to roll printer can be of both high and low viscosity, for the coating of carpets or for diapers.

He's a shifty character, too. But in my defense, it's hard to remain perfectly still for 30 seconds, especially when you're waving a flashlight around on the wall in front of you.

Finally, the upper floor has been removed. I made the mistake of thinking I could do the project myself and cut into the wood the wrong way. Guess I should have purchased my own wood to replace the other. The craftsman did a good job of not damaging the stairs (which was most important to me), I just don't like this awful veneered particleboard he used. This will have to be taken out and replaced with "REAL WOOD". Oh well, it isn't awful, but I must have real wood.

The house looks so neglected now. :-(

Juvenile Many-lined Skink under discarded particleboard. Tail for days....Colorado Springs, Colorado, April 27, 2019.

Auburn University Regions Professor of Forest Products Brian Via holds a piece of orient strand board, or OSB, a material commonly used in the manufacturing of indoor furniture. Via leads a research team that has obtained a patent to allow for the practical application of soy flour, a more cost effective and ecofriendly alternative, to replace petroleum-based adhesives traditionally utilized to manufacture the particleboard.

We ripped up B's 2nd bedroom at her house today. There was an even layer of asbestos tile, but on top of that was layers and layers of plywood, particleboard, slabs that used to be a veneer desk, paneling, and then shoved in there as well was a USED PAINT STICK. There were newspapers and even DIRT used to try to "level" the floor. The papers were dated April 1978. Freaking morons. I couldn't believe it when we saw the PAINT STICK used to "level" the floor.

When people think of a contemporary, elegant table design, concrete may not be the first material that comes to mind. However, concrete furniture has recently experienced a surge in popularity, and people are recognizing that this humble medium has rich design potential.

Concrete’s appeal comes from its versatility. The Spruce notes, “Although concrete may seem like a cold, flat material, it actually has this astounding way of creating a neutral backdrop for almost any design style—farmhouse, Bohemian, industrial, minimalist, to name a few.”

One way to introduce a concrete feature into an interior design is to invest in a dining table that incorporates concrete elements. “For a dining table that has an outside-the-box vibe, look to concrete. It offers a solid surface for family dinners, acts as a neutral stage for tabletop decor, and can be handmade by concrete companies, artisans, or custom-ordered online.”

As a custom furniture maker, Duvall & Co. understands that the days of buying furniture from a big-box retailer are slowly fading away. People do not want uniform, mass-produced furniture that is made from particleboard and covered by veneer. Rather, homeowners are choosing custom pieces that reflect the individuality of their family and complement the overall interior design of their home.

David Duvall, CEO of Duvall & Co., explains, “The educated consumer is not interested in having a table that is one of 10,000 just like it. They want one of a kind. This is really where our company stands out.”

Recognizing the shift towards unique, custom furniture, the Duvall & Co. Design Studio has crafted a line of tables that incorporate concrete, color, and the finest hardwoods to create sophisticated, contemporary pieces. One of the standout tables from this line is the La Jolla table.

The La Jolla Table From Duvall & Co.

An original design by Duvall & Co., the La Jolla table mixes concrete and a black walnut live edge slab to create a modern statement piece. The strength of the cool gray concrete is balanced by the warmth of the swirling coffee and cream hardwood, which flows through the center of the table. In contrast to some of Duvall & Co.’s other concrete tables, which have a more commanding presence, the La Jolla has a delicate quality, and people might be surprised that such an effect can be achieved with concrete. Graceful and subtle, the La Jolla table redefines what a concrete table can look like.

Dani Duvall, co-founder of Duvall & Co. and wife to David, shares the story behind the table. “The La Jolla table has a modern California design vibe, so we decided to name it after a town in California. We chose the relaxed seaside village of La Jolla in Southern California.”

The “California vibe” takes inspiration from a range of diverse influences to create a style that is fresh and lively. The aesthetic of the Golden State is at once both upscale and refined yet easygoing and approachable. According to California.com, “The California aesthetic combines a mixture of influences ranging from coastal chic and mid-century modern to Mediterranean and bohemian, but when it all comes together, it creates an ambiance that is distinctly Californian.”

Not only is the La Jolla table a beautiful conversation piece, but it is also exceptionally practical and durable, like all of the pieces from Duvall & Co. In fact, it is in the practical aspects that the benefits of concrete truly shine. Concrete is low-maintenance and can be cleaned easily with soap and water. The hardy durability of the material makes concrete furniture heat and scratch-resistant. A concrete dining table would be ideal for a family that is looking for a table that can withstand daily wear yet still be visually attractive. The motto at Duvall & Co. is “Life happens at the table,” so the design and build team ensures that each table model will easily endure everyday use.

acrylic on particleboard

600 x 1200 x 9 mm

Cubofuturism informs this nonfigurative abstract expressionist composition painted on particleboard. Pioneering works of the 1910 to 1930 period were researched for their points of difference to styles promoted by the protocubists, rayonists, and vorticists. Elements of dazzle camouflage are referenced. Industrial and architectural influences are additional factors in its execution. The work thus embodies many features from recent history, updated into a contemporary context of repurposing domestic and commercial products to bring art to an environmentally aware audience. Acrylic paint was applied with rollers; masking tape delineated boundaries between sharp-focus and less-precise regions of colour field. The accent is upon beacons and other positivist markings retrospectively emblematic of a utopian vision. Set in a large body of work, this piece highlights in a geopolitical sense the arrival of Pakeha settlers to Christchurch, subsequent fracture of their legacy through cultural landscape change, and the impact of earthquakes.

Those strange and crazy shapes were fun to look at it at first but then once I tried to understand what they mean, and to evaluate their aesthetic and artistic merit, I started to feel indifferent and my resentment for being made to look at with these mannered creations started to mount. If the above images at least awed one with its outrageous scales, the below familiar objects were quite silly and empty, besides the occasional whimsical effects. Quite banal.
