This live cicada was very co-operative, sitting still for 20 or so stackable images. Like the others, its sitting in my home-made macro desktop setup. Its basically a box made of melamine covered particleboard, with cutout side and top panels covered with thin plastic tablecloth (ie opaque diffuser). Three or four clip-on tablelamps shine through the panels. These lights have 'natural white' halogen bulbs which produce a light that is very well colour-balanced.

Historically, wood has been the material of choice for crafting furniture. The advent of the industrial revolution birthed innovative material technology and the efficiencies of mass production. These advances transformed the manufacturing of furniture. Alternative materials such as particleboard, MDF, plastic, steel, and aluminum were more affordable and amenable to mass-produce than wood.
As the production of fine, handcrafted, solid wood furniture has declined over the last 150 years, its prominence and desirability have continued to gain elevated status. Furniture handsomely crafted from a regal hardwood transcends the passage of time and fleeting styles. The ingrained aesthetic that captured the eye of Pharaohs still casts its spell to this day. The attraction and mystique of hardwood furniture are found in its durability, beauty, and uniqueness.
Strong and Durable
Wood endures through generations, but longevity does depend on the type of wood. True hardwoods such as walnut, maple, and cherry retain their rich appearance over centuries. Well-made furniture crafted from best quality hardwoods can hold up for generations despite heavy use. Wood remains far and away the most durable material for crafting handmade furniture. Wood well-kept will not wear out. It wears well!
Aesthetically Rich
Fine hardwoods possess an unmatched beauty. Subtle and nuanced, exquisitely grained woods like live edge walnut, maple, and cherry vividly manifest this aesthetic quality. Slight variations in grain thickness, direction, and texture pop when seen together.
The craftsman enjoys greater artistic license when working with wood than with any other material. A boundless potential of design innovation awaits the bold artisan who works the wood. Machines can accomplish only so much with metal or plastic. The individual uniqueness of each piece creates an added layer of value.
Unique and Authentic
No two pieces of solid wood furniture are identical, even if they are the same type and style of furniture. The wood procured for each piece has its own unique story. Each customer has a unique journey that planted them in the showroom, searching for a custom-made heirloom.
Variations in the design-build process contribute to this uniqueness. Each craftsman lends their own identity to each piece they touch. The subtle nuances of each wood—the grain, density, color, texture, and finish—create a fingerprint for each piece.
The customer’s intimate involvement in the design process accentuates the uniqueness of the final product. Each piece of furniture is crafted to satisfy the unique desires of the customer and reflects the unique artistry of its designer and crafter.
Once in place, each piece of furniture embarks on a journey that seals its uniqueness. Life, family, work, and inspiration happen at a table commissioned for these purposes. Each dent, gouge, or imperfection authenticates the table and validates its mission. Memories are literally embedded in the table.
Easily Maintained and Repaired
Custom handcrafted furniture is also easy to maintain. Regular dusting with a microfiber cloth and a furniture cleaner such as Pledge is all that is needed. Furniture sealed with the highest quality products easily withstand spills. Simply wipe up the spill or mess with a moist microfiber cloth.
Stylistically Versatile
Well-designed and solidly constructed wood furniture will enhance any home aesthetic. Whether rustic, traditional, or modern, wood can be sculpted to accommodate any décor. Wood creates a sense of the natural world indoors. Elegant hardwood furniture can evoke intimacy and warmth in a city apartment or cramped urban loft.
Sustainability
Unlike plastic, wood is a sustainable resource. As long as they are harvested responsibly, trees can be continually replenished. Solid wood furniture can be repurposed and repaired. It need not end up in a landfill.
Other “Wood” Options
Clearly, solid wood furniture is superior to wood substitutes. Veneer particleboard, a low-density fiberboard, is an example of a wood substitute. It lacks strength and durability and will not stand the test of time. Particleboard is vulnerable to changes in temperature and moisture. Exposure to moisture can lead to warping. Particleboard eventually degrades, and the veneer will separate from the substrate.
Particleboard consists of wood fibers (sawdust), glue, and formaldehyde. The formaldehyde gradually disburses into the home environment, which is not healthy for family or pets. The glue used in the manufacturing of particleboard is not as eco-friendly as solid wood.
Custom handcrafted hardwood furniture is durable, beautiful, and unique. It is an investment that will last many generations.

You will note extra black marker though ... Turns out the shape isn't mirrored right. I already know what I need to do to get a uniform centered shape but it will have to wait till tomorrow where I will again cut out the particleboard shapes then glue together.
I wasn't thinking when I did this or I would have caught it before cutting >_< still looks like progress though ;)
Production methods
Step 1: Produce wood floor joist frame, according to the actual size of the wooden doors, install lock wood, finger-joint material would be better. In order to prevent wood floor joist from deformation, sawing 4-5 incisions in the longitudinal direction of the wooden frame, direction is parallel to the door plane, perpendicular to the wooden frame, distance between incision is 400 mm, front and Back alternate with, depth for 5- 10 mm. In order to put pressure in the process of moisture balance and water play, drilling 2-3 vents in the width direction of the wood frame, direction is parallel to the door plane, perpendicular to the wooden frame, bore of 5-10mm, post curing pressure after fully the vent densification. Cutting chipboard according to the wooden door frame size.
Step 2: Using glue machine and gluing uniformly in density board. While artificial coating, the coating should be uniform .With the glue-spread of 180-230 grams per M2 and do not glue in door core.
Step 3: Put the joist on the density board coated with plastic and put particle board in the middle. The direction of the hole is the longitudinal direction. Nail gun is used to connect between joists and joists, joists and particle boards. Clearance is required between chipboards and wooden frames. At both sides in the direction of the vertical hole, clearance is required between joists and particle boards(when in hot pressing, it should leave 5-8mm; while in cold pressing, it should leave 10-15mm). When in small assembly, 5-6mm gap is need to leave between the boards at both sides with holes.
Step 4: Cover another density board which is coated with plastic and then put into the press after alignment.
The murals that were painted on the particleboard that covered broken windows and protected unbroken windows in downtown Kalamazoo were displayed in the Arcadia Creek Festival Place along North Edwards Street.
The particleboard was put up after a night of violence in downtown Kalamazoo left broken windows on many businesses on Tuesday, June 2, 2020; the murals were painted by local artists the following Saturday.

if it is one lesson the dump has taught me is to never buy particleboard furniture. It WILL end up here.
I built this bench to fit in our garage while still allowing cars to park in it and room to walk. It also needed to allow for a small concrete footer than runs around the base of the garage walls.
It was about 25" deep, 6' wide, and 48" from the ground to the work surface. The entire thing is made from 2x4 pine (with the exception of a few 2x2 furring strips) and the surfaces are 3/4" melamine laminated particleboard.
In total with tax the project cost $93.39:
11 - 2x4x8 Pine @ $2.82/each
3 - 2x2x8 Pine @ $1.75/each
1 - 8x4 Melamine Particle Board @ $38.28/sheet
2 - 2.5" Drywall Screws @ $6.47/box
It only looks good because it's wet from wiping it down. It's laminate-covered particleboard on this old crappy table we found in the basement that the old owner left behind.

1 Natural Absorbent Activated Carbon Car Air Purifier (Curved Edges), according to the color selected
Why choose this product?
WhiteLeaf is 100% pure activated charcoal powder-free from chemicals. It is made of activated carbon by heating up carbon in a way that it develops pores in between for capturing the chemicals, moisture, and toxic gas. And these parts emit all sorts of toxic fumes when temperature suits up due to hot sun and such emitted fumes are not good for health.
WhiteLeaf products contain specific grade activated carbon that when kept inside the car absorbs those toxins, odor, and moisture in the air. It is made from highly absorbent activated bamboo charcoal particles contains millions of tiny porous holes that naturally absorb and eliminate odors. Filtering airborne moisture, thereby reducing other pollutants. The first in the Indian market to come with this product and the first to have a test report for the level of toxic it can absorb.

6' x 2'6". 5 shelves. Adjustable. Particleboard. Fair condition, but with 2 holes drilled in to the right side that used to hold a knife rack. They can be easily covered with putty - or if the bookshelf is in a corner, they won't be visible.
I've been keeping an eye out for some night stands to replace my asian-inspired Family Dollar particleboard night stand. Found a pair at Salvation Army today. Yay! They're made of actual wood!
It had been heavily used at Allendale by generations of birds, and was literally falling apart. This year, I milled and replaced the logs making up the front of the house, and also replaced the rotted particleboard floor and roof, and finally added new shingles. The one at the peak cracked a bit, so I covered the crack with some copper flashing.

I designed, built and installed this "half" table from scraps of Walnut, ash and red oak. It is affixed to a peninsula that was created between the kitchen and dining room using the sink and cabinet (a DIY remodel by a previous owner). The rear of the sink back splash, raw particleboard, was exposed. The apron is mortise and tenoned and the legs are 4 sided tapers made with a jig for the table saw.

www.halebookcasesdirect.com/blogs/our-blog/15377869-durab... For most, this is likely to be an all too familiar scene. We may not all be hoarders, but we all need space to put our belongings. Whether it’s books, collectables, or paraphernalia we simply don’t know what to do with, it all has to go somewhere. While the floor may be the easiest and most spacious place, it can be embarrassing for those moments when we entertain our distinguished guests. Some of us may even relish being organized from time to time.
So when we see that irresistible sale on a bookshelf at our favorite department store or a five-dollar bargain at a garage sale; how can we pass that up? But how long before it becomes an eyesore? As the cheaply manufactured corkboard crumbles, so does our organization system. Sure, there will always be another temporary solution, but the costs add up over time. Besides, don’t we owe it to ourselves to save time and frustration?
Hale’s wood shelves hold 150-250 pounds each. That’s twice the weight of a shelf full of encyclopedias, or Lord of the Rings novels. In a stress test with concrete blocks, Hale bookcases held over a thousand pounds of total weight. No bending, breaking, warping or sides bowing; no sign of giving in. The shelves could have taken more weight, but there is only so much concrete that can fit on one shelf.
From an interior design standpoint, it is easy to see the difference between solid wood furniture, particleboard, or plastic shelving. Not to mention how aesthetically pleasing the room will be when the shelves are full and intact.
