Parenting......Ever have one of those days? Weeks? Years? Sometimes at my wits end I just feel like surrendering.

If our Alaska trip had continued as planned, I would have missed the birth of these two beautiful babies: Gabrielle and Brody. They arrived six minutes apart last night. And they are absolutely perfect. :-)

Here they were a few weeks ago.

Lunch has arrived...or is it breakfast? Either way, this little moth/butterfly is going to feed some young nuthatches.

I don't think the birds are in any risk of being attacked when they are close to the Naturum by lake Hornborga but it's burried deep in their behavior to always be on alert.

park swans; just not the same...

Burrowing owl parenthood, fatherhood at its best - this little father owl had 3 youngsters to feed. They're getting older and venturing away from the burrow, taking very short flights, but still haven't figured out the feeding part yet. So dad was making a lot of deliveries to feed the hungry 3. While not a behaviorist, I'd have to say he was coaxing them further and further from the burrow to get the tasty morsels he was bringing back. I haven't seen the mom my last two visits so I really hope he's not now a single dad. Regardless, he's doing an admirable job. Happy Father's Day.

One of two shots taken of this Dusky Moorhen parent with a newly-hatched chick. This version shows a marginally better view of the youngster, but I thought I'd post both.
