... Hiking past the wall and a few other wonderful treasures that caused quite a pause in my forward progress we arrive at the intended destination of this short trail, the high vantage point above this beautiful waterfall. ... #etbtsy

Along the Trail

Early Ramson flowers in three stages of development. I love the deep green of the leaves, contrasting with the bright white flowers.

An abandoned papermill virtually untouched by vandalism or graffiti. Not sure about the whole history but it dates back to the 1920s/30s.

One of the old names for Snowdrops was "Snow-piercer". When I see the new plants emerging it is easy to see why. The bud is definitely designed to pierce up through cover, both snow and leaf litter! Seen in the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve at The Knapp & Papermill.

Ramson shoots in the woods on the last day of February. Seen in the Knapp and Papermill, a Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve. (Allium ursinum)

No idea about the species, but they were rather attractive!

Not far from Garda Lake there is a narrow canyon carved by Toscolano creek. Since 16th century many little papermills were built to produce paper from rags, using the water power. The structure of those buildings developed mainly in the 19th century, in the industrial age. Nowadays those old fascinating buildings are part of a magic environment, where the human impact is melted in the nature, where anything is part of a wonderful mosaic. Single Shot - 59s long exposure.

Amazing to see the carpet of Bluebells, including their colonising this fallen tree.

A damp, dull morning in the woods, but a definite hint that the natural world is waking up. The Hazel trees (Corylus avellana) were in full flower and their catkins made a great display.

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.”

Late summer clouds scud across the sky as the morning light breaks into the meadow and woods. Seen in The Knapp and Papermill, a Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve.

LA&L 426 & 425 meet early morning sweet light at Papermill Road in Avon, NY at 7:38am on July 24, 2025. It has been many years since the road train started in the morning and I don't know if the 7am start time will last.

After months of developing in their tightly packed buds, the Oak leaves and catkins had burst out in the Spring sunshine. From tiny catkins are might acorns grown!

A winter morning at the Knapp and Papermill reserve, near Alfrick in Worcestershire.

The brook had been flushed through, spring cleaned if you like, by the end of year floods. On this particular January morning the brook was quiet and clear, with its banks somewhat bare. I tried to explore the structures of the trees along the bank, now visible since all detritus was washed away.

The Bluebells are starting to look good in the trees above Papermill meadow at The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve in Worcestershire.

Papermill Pond is a widened section of Eight Mile Brook, just above Southford Falls in Southbury, Connecticut. This 169 acre state park was the former sight of a Diamond Match Company factory.

After busting through the snow at the Papermill Road crossing in Avon, NY, the powdery stuff really fills the air around the 420. This is from an early snowfall on November 21, 2014. There is supposed to be some decent snowfall around here on Friday March 2, 2018.
