La papeterie de Vaux at Paysac était une forge du 18e qui se transforma en papeterie industrielle au milieu du 19e siècle pour la fabrication du papier de paille.
Today, the old factory and its machines are a historic monument.
I really liked the way the Ramsons follow the curves of the path as it leaves the wood.

Hawthorn Blossom. A sunny Spring May morning at the Knapp and Papermill Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve.
Many asparagus growers make sure that the thermophilic plants are warm in their beds so that the sought-after shoots sprout. Doing so, the beginning of the harvest can be advanced by 3 to 4 weeks.
This "tunnnel asparagus" is highly sought for.
Seen near Plattling and next to a paper mill (background).
Leigh Brook winding through woodland in the Knapp and Papermill reserve run by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.
In the midst of this rather wet summer the lush greens of the woodland surround and lean over the brook, frequently hiding it from the footpath. Some flood damage from earlier in the year provided a vantage point to capture this image of the bend in the stream.
LA&L 428 busts through a small amount of snow at the Papermill Road crossing in Avon, NY on March 16, 2017.
A damp, dull morning in the woods, but a definite hint that the natural world is waking up. Beautiful drifts of Snowdrops, bejewelled with February rain. Seen at The Knapp and Papermill, a Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve.

LA&L 425 & 426 begin to pull at Papermill Road in Avon, NY on October 14, 2025. The train dropped 8 loads of sugar in the siding. There was nothing at Brooks Yard on the RSR this day, so the road train was able to make a quick turn to Genesee Junction. This allowed for a daylight run all the way back to Lakeville.
Early Spring Bluebell.

What happens after the flowers. Bluebell seed pods.

Early Ramson flowers in three stages of development. I love the deep green of the leaves, contrasting with the bright white flowers.

One of the old names for Snowdrops was "Snow-piercer". When I see the new plants emerging it is easy to see why. The bud is definitely designed to pierce up through cover, both snow and leaf litter! Seen in the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve at The Knapp & Papermill.
A damp, dull morning in the woods, but a definite hint that the natural world is waking up. The Hazel trees (Corylus avellana) were in full flower and their catkins made a great display.

A winter morning at the Knapp and Papermill reserve, near Alfrick in Worcestershire.
The brook had been flushed through, spring cleaned if you like, by the end of year floods. On this particular January morning the brook was quiet and clear, with its banks somewhat bare. I tried to explore the structures of the trees along the bank, now visible since all detritus was washed away.
The Bluebells are starting to look good in the trees above Papermill meadow at The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve in Worcestershire.
Steel papermill, designed and used by Peter Gentenaar
after a 17th century example of wood.
(new mills are obtainable - see his website)
The lichen encrusted branches of these oaks seemed to be reaching out from the edge of the wood. These oaken green fingers were contrasted by the browns of the old Hazel catkins in the background.

... Hiking past the wall and a few other wonderful treasures that caused quite a pause in my forward progress we arrive at the intended destination of this short trail, the high vantage point above this beautiful waterfall. ... #etbtsy

An abandoned papermill virtually untouched by vandalism or graffiti. Not sure about the whole history but it dates back to the 1920s/30s.
