This collage was made entirely from magazine strips with a technique I call "painting with paper." I cut the paper into different shapes and layer them in such a way that they look almost like the brushstrokes in a painting.

Charm Quilt, old drawings, paintings, photographs, elementary school homework, calligraphy exercises, and college notes, 68 x 88”, double-sided, 2014, $8000
Inspired by the quilt my great-great grandmother made, I used the same dimensions and hexagonal repeating shape.

Day 11. FlyLady says: "Today we are going to add another page to our Control Journals. We are going to call this our Inspirational Page. On this page I want you to write down some of your favorite inspirational phrases. Use this page as a place to write them down when you see something that touches your heart."
It felt more natural for me to use magazine clippings instead of phrases. I have piles and piles of magazines I have saved for my paper collages. I've been meaning to go through these magazines, take the pics and pieces I need and recycle the rest. Well, that has not happened.
So, I took a small pile of magazines today and looked for nice, inspirational images. Nice colors and shapes, something I'd like to see around me at home, some ideas of a beautiful home. And now one pile of magazines is ready to go!
I was doing this while my son was taking a nap. A nice, relaxed moment. The only thing missing was something nice to eat - a chocolate bar or a bag of candy, maybe. Then I heard our mail being delivered and look!! Gummy Mix from England! [photo 2]
Lesley was super kind and offered to send me some yellow yarn I had admired in one of her photos. Look how cutely it was wrapped and how nicely it matched with what I had been doing! And then there was this bag of fruit flavored jelly shapes. Perfect! They were very soft and delicious. Thank you so much, Lesley!
I didn't finished my page yet. I will add more images later as I go through those magazines.
