This cheerful woman makes rice paper all day and sells them to an aggregator who then sells them to a distributor who sells them to restaurants.

Each piece takes about 30 seconds to make. It is endless backbreaking work, but she goes about it cheerfully.

Eventually, these will get automated, but for now, the hand manufacturing continues, and the woman gets to make a living.

This time we test a paper from Italy. It is named after a painter for painters, but is it good for origami, too?

When making notes for genealogy I enjoy my vast collection of color ink pens. When I change sources or persons being researched I reach in and grab another color to make the notes.

Front side of it.. Update: Diagrams are in progress..Tweaked a few things before diagrams. The challenge was to get both sides; front & back aligned nicely, which was done back in March. The version displayed at USA last year had overlaps on the back side, thus solved now. I hope you have fun to fold it, as I have.

How-to instructions are here.

Rhodanthe chlorocephala is a native Australian daisy belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is widely grown due to its attractive flowers and foliage, and because it’s hardy, adaptable and provides a good, fast ground cover. The flowers are long-lived and dry well. Rhodanthe chlorocephala subspecies rosea is the most widely grown subspecies and is commonly known as “Pink and White Everlasting”, “Rosy Sunray”, “Pink Paper-daisy” and “Rosy Everlasting”. It grows naturally in the south of Western Australia extending into South Australia. Rhodanthe chlorocephala subsp. rosea is an erect annual herb 20-60cm high with clumps of glabrous (hairless) grey-green stems and leaves 1-6cm in length. It has a large single flowering head at the tip of each stem. Flower heads grow to 6cm diameter, gradually decreasing as the flowering season progresses. The color of the bracts varies from deep pink (almost red) through pale pink to pure white, with a yellow or black centre. 5835

Our Daily Challenge 1-9 August : Mask

We had a project when I was teaching where everyone made a mask which they then wore to our Caribbean carnival. This was the one I made

The concept behind this model is very simple, the humble waterbomb. But the trick is in the distribution of the waterbombs to obtain this shape. In the end it closes and locks perfectly.

Wonderful model, Fujimoto rocks!

Like this. Repeat with the other 5 points.

One of the most impressive of Miyuki's models.

I folded this model during OUSA07 in a class by Chris himslef that lasted until 2:30 am. I had uploaded a picture of the model taken that same day but I think it deserves a better picture.

This is the most beautiful box and the most difficult I've ever seen. Until now I hadn't had the courage to unfold it to try to replicate it, but after I was able to reproduce a box I had accidentally created trying to replicate this one from memory (that I hand't had the courage either to unfold it), I felt bold and unfolded this one. I wanted to have a picture just in case I wasn't able to refold it or that it damaged during the unfolding process and here it is.

After several hours of trying I finally was able to put all those creases in place and reproduce it, pictures coming when I have the time to fold it from good paper.

Paper lanterns at Yasaka Jinja. On each lantern, the name of the person or establishment who donated it is written. The one in blue is a nice little restaurant in Gion called "Hyotan" - no special religious significance or anything like that but maybe they're friendly with the shrine priests.
