simple pattern I found when I played with small square... intermediate stages are quite interesting too
from hexagon of painted copy paper
This time we test a paper from Italy. It is named after a painter for painters, but is it good for origami, too?

36" (91.4 cm) square of MC 33 gsm Kitakata gampi.
Folded from diagram in Tanteidan Convention Book Vol. 17. Also available in Origami School of Masters, available here.
I've wanted to fold this model for a long time, but was really for waiting for dry autumn weather. The paper softening effect of high summer humidity really doesn't help in trying to fold things like this.
By far the most time I've spent folding a single model so far. Pre-creasing a 96x96 grid and the additional creases in the cp is rather tedious. Yet the model itself is not very difficult to fold, there's just a lot to it which means it takes a long time.
Since Colin has recently decided that T-Rex is his favorite dinosaur, I dug deep in to the memory banks to make him this during craft time.

I have a question for anyone who is interested: For my next photoset, would you prefer I finish out my Oregon store photos of another Albertsons store I photographed, or head back over into Utah and look at one of the two Albertsons (former Albertsons) stores I got photographed there? Depending on how everyone interested responds, that's where my next photoset will head to. Thanks!
Paper dolls and KitKats. My wife brought these handmade dolls back from a recent visit to Japan for the Olympic Games Test events. Ready Steady Tokyo.
The concept behind this model is very simple, the humble waterbomb. But the trick is in the distribution of the waterbombs to obtain this shape. In the end it closes and locks perfectly.
Wonderful model, Fujimoto rocks!
NOT an origami tessellation - This design is created by stacking six pieces of translucent paper each cut with the same pattern of holes in different orientations. You could cal it Kirigami Tessellation, or maybe even Laminar Kirigami Tessellation if you want to be extra fancy, since the pattern only comes together when all the layers of cut paper are stacked. The darkness or lightness at any given point depends on how many layers of paper light passes through when the piece is backlit.
I adapted the design from this arabic pattern from one of my favorite resources, patterninislamicart.com: www.patterninislamicart.com/drawingsdiagramsanalyses/?boo...

Triangles on a square grid, might be tricky although it isn't
Unfold everything and make sure that the creases that form the hexagon at the center and the creases that radiate from it are mountains..

Paper lanterns at Yasaka Jinja. On each lantern, the name of the person or establishment who donated it is written. The one in blue is a nice little restaurant in Gion called "Hyotan" - no special religious significance or anything like that but maybe they're friendly with the shrine priests.
