Pale sun rose

a shimmer on the misty sky!

I was out in the forest with my daughter and grandchildren on sunday. The weather was mild and misty, but we enjoyed our walk as always. We made lunch over a bonfire, and a meal never taste so good as out in the nature

Such a strange looking bird. It moves a bit like a pigeon always picking up stuff from the ground and exploring it to see if it contains something edible. This bird is a migrant from the Antarctic and is not breeding in the Falklands but can be found around colonies of penguins and shags during the Summer. Its local name is Kelp Pigeon and is referred to as an opportunistic scavenger.

I've seen thousands of prairie dogs over the years, but I haven't seen any with this nearly white fur. We spotted her just outside Badlands National Park.

“When darkness comes and eats the light,

bury your fears on sorry night.

Because in the winter's darkest hours,

comes the feasting of the Vours.

You cannot see it, the life they stole.

Your body's there, but not your soul. - Simon Holt

218) Pale Blue Flycatcher

Pale Blue Flycatcher, Cyornis unicolor, Sambar Biru Rimba

It is superficially similar in appearance to the verditer flycatcher, but is paler blue, with greyish underparts from throat to vent, and a discontinuous black eye-patch. Both birds can often be found in the same locale.

The prairie wildflowers are starting to bloom now and the view changes almost daily. We never get tired of walking out to see what is new. The Pale Coneflower is the earliest of the coneflowers around here.

I found this one early in June when I started going out for Butterflies.

The pale chanting goshawk is an opportunistic raptor and eats a wide variety of prey including small mammals, lizards, birds, large insects and carrion. It has also been recorded predating upon Tent tortoise and Leopard tortoise hatchlings which are swallowed whole while the shell is still soft. There is some evidence of social hunting in breeding groups but solitary hunting is the norm. Pale chanting goshawks commonly associate with foraging Honey badgers and feed on organisms that are flushed by the Honey badger's feeding activity. This association increases the hunting opportunities and prey capture success of the pale chanting goshawk while the honey badger does not suffer any loss of foraging efficiency. (Wikipedia)
