One of my favorite times of the journey because it means your close to departure.

...for the swap with super lovely Mirna! Can't show any of the things I'm sending since she knows already some of it and the rest I wanted to keep as a surprise!

Not all of this stuff made it into the suitcase. I nearly forgot to pack the Peeps for Spooner, so a few shirts had to get out to make room. This time, I'm not bringing guidebooks -- just a mapbook and my London moleskin journal. I left a couple books of walks at Spooner's on a previous trip, and I ordered London Above Eye Level from amazon.co.uk and had it sent to his house. I learned from rosenbeans to always take a folder of all the junk I've printed out, so I've got a portfolio with maps of Whitstable and Canterbury, some pub lists, and -- of course -- my spreadsheet.

After a few hours waiting on a lazy morning the car is getting full.

We were 11 adults in this Peugeot 505 plus small children for a 24-hour trip.

You get used to the endless military roadblocks on the roads. Usually the driver paid the bribe and this was counted into the fare. Sometimes everybody had to pay.

I'm moving at the end of the month so it's time to get packing. So far today I've managed to fill 19 boxes and 2 bags of crap. I'm exhausted...

Did we forget something...?

Recently I've been as busy as this bee - packing as I prepare to move house.

In a few days, Pixy and I will be flying north to live in a coastal country town. Pixy is coping very well with the upheaval in his world - being a real cool cat!

Leaving Yogyakarta

The meat packing portion of the barn at the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk colony.

We went to the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Colony at Gold Hill in El Dorado County today. It's a failed Japanese colony from 1869 or so that tried to grow tea and silkworms. They didn't count on a harsh drought (not as bad as the one now, but bad enough), funding being cut off, and miners diverting their irrigation water for their own nefarious purposes. The colony lasted two years and then the members (they started with 22 people) dispersed. One 19 year-old lady, Okei, died of a fever, probably malaria, and is buried on this site.

Packing up to move to Halifax for the summer. We've got stuff all over the house so I figured it would be a great time for a clone shot. If there were actually 9 of me, I think it would go much faster.

Woah...I didn't even notice till I typed that, there are 9 of me, and its Day 9....weird.

The meat packing portion of the barn at the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk colony. This is probably the compressor for the freezer. I think the meat packing part happened long after the colony disbanded.

yeah so Chloe is supposed to be packing to move but riding in the gate car at the track instead.

O sweet ponies!

The first of many boxes. The move is on for next week. No more leaky roof, dodgy windows and useless heating system. Will I miss this place? (Probably)
