Camera - The native camera app was used with the HDR option.

Filterstorm - Opened the photograph in the native Photos app on my iPad3. Copied the image, opened the Filterstorm app, pasted the contents of the clipboard, and saved a copy of the image to the Camera Roll. This manoeuvre simplified the subsequent processing by having this copy as the most recent image in the Camera Roll.

Frontview - Trapezoidal crop applied to change the apparent perspective.

Snapseed - Structure and Ambience filters applied. Overall lighting adjustments carried out.

Photoshop Express - Noise reduction and Sharpening filters applied with manual settings.

ExifEditor - EXIF data from the original photograph transferred to the final image.

PaintShop Pro X5 - Topaz DeNoise "JPEG Strongest" filter applied.

Xiong Li opening the GEM Beijing 2011 international workshop on gravity electromagnetic, and magnetic methods and their applications at the Beijing Geosciences International Conference Center (BJGICC).

 

This SEG/CGS workshop brought together experts from academia, government agencies, resources companies, and contractors to share the latest technological and methodological developments and experiences, and to discuss challenges and future directions and needs.

 

The GEM Beijing 2011 workshop (10-13 October 2011) was organized by the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and the CGS (the Chinese Geophysical Society). The Workshop attracted larger-than-expected numbers of abstract submissions and participants, with 250 participants representing 17 countries from all continents. There were 24 poster and 73 oral presentations, with two thirds of the oral presentations from outside China.

Narcissism Thursday rolls around again.

I took this photograph to remind me that there are days in Beijing when you can see a blue sky and take a deep breath of fresh air.

 

It is the view over the rooftops from my room in the Beijing Geosciences International Conference Center (BJGICC). For the majority of the time, the buildings in the middle ground were obscured by the heavy layer of smog that covers the city.
