Daddy Tree Swallow arriving to feed the young ones. We've had a little bit of drama lately. They had four chicks. Usually, one Swallow stays and guards while the other looks for insects. In the mornings, though, they both head out, and then the Evil House Sparrows start trying to get into the box and claim it, and the Evil Starlings try to snag the chicks. Then, out of nowhere, one of them will swoop down and hit the invading birds. At this point they realize that one needs to stay at the box. The next day they forget, and the scene repeats itself.
Post three for the day. Thanks for Viewing.

... this fabulous peacock at Dublin Zoo! He even manages to look stunning in black and white.
Though don't know what he was doing hanging around the Herbivore House, which incidentally, the sign tells us was "erected by means of a sum of money contributed by the trustees of the Natural History Society of Dublin" and "supplemented by public subscription"...

Chickens (Gallus gallus) are domesticated fowl and thought to be one of the first few that were domesticated for food purposes. Some genetic research has led to the beliefe that chickens are all descended from either the Grey and the Red Junglefowl. There are more chickens in the world than any other bird, estimated around 24 billion in 2003.

With all this snow and the insanely cold temps., it's hard to imagine that in just a few short months we'll start seeing the geese with their sweet little babies floating around in the local ponds.
This is one of my most favorite scenes in springtime.
We're proud to announce the opening of the North Terminal building and bus boarding areas at 95th/Dan Ryan, the latest milestone as we near the completion of the 95th/Dan Ryan Station & Terminal Improvements Project – the largest construction project in CTA history!
One of CTA’s busiest Red Line stations, this terminal – along with its sister South Terminal and a new pedestrian bridge over 95th Street - will provide 24-hour Red Line service, as well as bus and rail transportation option to more than 20,000 daily passengers.
The opening of the North Terminal, with its bright, glass-enclosed terminal, replaces what used to be a cramped, aging facility with a modern space that includes safe pedestrian walkways, a longer train platform to reduce overcrowding and Bus and Train Tracker displays throughout.
This $280M project represents a significant investment in Chicago’s South Side.
For more information on the project to improve the station and bus terminal areas, visit: www.transitchicago.com/95thterminal

At the Zoo I encountered a large party of these beautiful creatures. Peafowl such as the blue peacock have been admired by humans and kept as pets for thousands of years. As a child I lived for a time in the San Franando Valley, California on an avacado ranch. Our peacock, JERRY, was a constant delight to me and I longed to pet him, but, alas.......he always evaded my six year old hands.
