I realized that I've severely dropped the ball on sharing my new images here. That makes me sad because Flickr is my photographic home and I've hoarded about 30-40 images that I could have been documenting! So here we go...I'm going to post one every day until I get through the lot of them!

This realization that I've been so bad about uploading has also forced me into a different, more intentional headspace. To consider that what I make I also want to share, and that I need to so do with more intent if I want to call myself an artist...or at least the artist I want to be.

When the last tube train has left the station, when the only light is the wet reflections of the neon shop signs, when the foxes come out of their hiding places and when the only sound is the swoosh of the late night delivery trucks along the empty streets, then the protectors come out -- they watch over the streets and the creatures of the city. They are part of the city. They are the city. From what do they protect us, you might ask, if you believe in them. Well, if you don't know, then they, the protectors, are doing a good job of it, right?

This is a special series, both for what it represents and a step toward an adventure of a new style. My first series from this set of images was done in black and white. Spontaneously and in parallel I saw a color version, more painterly. This is that vision.

In this series I hope to highlight individuals audacity of character and purpose, illustrated by its vibrant and radiant displays. Everyone came to me as being perfectly beautiful and I want to share some of those moments. Homage to all protector spirits out there as your activities and intent are noble, to work for the benefit of others. With hearts tranquil and wrathful openness, intent is grounded in the wisdom of interdependence and expressed in joyous prayer.

Choying O’Brien - She came up while I was working on a different version of this image. Showing off a bit, we pursue the possible with photoshop layers and adjustments. Unbridled ideas volleyed back and forth. I arrived at this final image, which will set the bar for the subsequent visions.

Because it literally took me a couple of clicks, I thought I'd show you guys two more variants on the Protector Mask based on my Protector of Iron. On the left, we have a golden Mask of Fire, since everyone loved the look of this year's fire masks, and on the right is a Mask of Steel, because it sounds cool.

The Leadership Putnam Class of 2002 coordinated a Quality of Life project that honors local and national law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency management technicians, paramedics and military personnel. After the events of September 11, 2001, many citizens within the community wanted to show their support for our local protectors who put their lives at risk everyday for our safety. This mural was painted by a local artist and is on the corner of Cedar and W. Broad streets.
