The Brouwersdam, located between the isles of between Goeree-Overflakkee and Schouwen-Duiveland, is the seventh of the Dutch Delta Works. Started in 1965 and finished in 1971, it has closed off the connection between the North Sea and the Brouwershavense Gat, thus protecting the islands of the Dutch provinces of Zuid-Holland and Zeeland against major floods, like the North Sea flood of 1953, killing 1,836 in the Netherlands, 307 in England, 28 in Belgium and 19 in Scotland. Further damages: 9% of total Dutch farmland flooded, 30,000 animals drowned, 47,300 buildings damaged of which 10,000 destroyed.

Nutmeg recently dug this on out from under the fridge. It's been missing for a while. :)
Happy Caturday! Cats with toys!
The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is the largest extant species of rhinoceros. It has a wide mouth used for grazing and is the most social of all rhino species.
Despite its name the white rhino is not actually white at all, its skin is grey in colour.
The white rhino is a grazer and can often be found grazing on grass in the open plains. They need to feed on a daily basis but can survive for 4 to 5 days without water.
Populations of white rhino have recovered from an all time low of around 100 in 1895 to the current wild population of around 20,170. However, an increase in rhino poaching since 2008 is once again threatening the total population.
The two Grey Crowned Cranes seem to be protecting the White Rhino who was busy grazing. Photographed during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in the open savannah plains of Africa.
Early sunrise glinted off blowing netting we have applied to most of our windows to protect flying birds.
I loved the patterns (especially viewed myopically or with my nearsighted eye). Bit of an abstract; he background blue is another part of the house.
We want our little finches and sparrows to quit hitting the windows with their heads! It's tragic if they do.
I just found this suitable quote on the About page of James Drummond and it resonated strongly during these strange times:
“The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable." —Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

The Konik Horses live free in the area of the
Christianskoog/Woehrdener Loch near the North Sea Coast in a natural reserve area. We have been so lucky last year to find the whole herd not far away from a small street and could come very close to them to take some wonderful photos of these beauties. This litte foal is well protected in the middle of the group, but was also extremely curious about us.. :-D
Guess that should be "protecting the pond". Two male Blue-winged Teal have a tiff about a local pond.

Guardavalle was hit pretty hard by the massive earthquake of 1783, it destroyed a lot of towns in the area but fortunately they had some great local stone masons particularly those from the area of Serra San Bruno that stitched most of the town back together. Towns like this offer a nice place to beat the heat during summer, the narrow alleys shielding you from the unrelenting southern sun also allowing you get some shots along the way if you can deal with the high dynamic range needed to capture them. If you are here on the 7th of May the patron saint of the town Sant’Agazio a martyred soldier from Cappadocia who protects soldiers and relives headaches is paraded through town, the children try to toss wreathes of flowers as he passes by to encircle his head or catch them on the spear he carries in his right hand
I took this on Sept 18th 2023 with my D850 and Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 at 62mm, 1/250s, f5.6 ISO 450
The Prince's Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Prince of Monaco. Built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers.
The New Zealand dotterel/tūturiwhatu is an endangered species found only in NZ. There are only about 1700 birds left. Loss of habitat and introduced predatory mammals are to blame for their decline in numbers. This male is displaying his breeding colours with his flushed chest feathers of rusty orange.
