These deck prism arrays were placed in the iron decking at the top floor of the lighthouse, surrounding the large Fresnel lens. The prisms, flat on the surface but faceted below would refract light into the lighthouse tower and its spiral staircase below.
"In normal usage, The prism hangs below the ceiling and disperses the light sideways; the top is flat and installed flush with the deck, becoming part of the deck. A plain flat glass would just form a single bright spot below-- not very useful general illumination-- hence the prismatic shape.
The names "deck light" and "dead light" or "deadlight" are sometimes used, though the latter seems to be uncommon as a reference to prisms, as more often refers to plain-glass panels.
The earliest deck prisms with provenance are from the 1840s. Presumably they were used earlier, but how much earlier is unknown; the origin of the idea is lost, and glass is difficult to date." glassian.org/Prism/Deck/index.html
I was fascinated by the beauty, artisanship, and function of these, and had a difficult time finding information on the internet about their use in lighthouses.
By the way, this is not selective color. I'm not a fan of selective color, I did only a slight bit of dodging on the image. The details are much clearer when viewed larger on black.
My outting yesterday: Clinique Counter for a list of products to give my mom for my Christmas Care package. So she did my makeup again. With smokey eyes this time :-D I love smokey eyes :-)
Next stop, Akron Library to talk to my old boss/librarian about Civil Service stuff. I figured since I was in Akron, I'd swing by the school and see when the Christmas Concert was. I drove by the sign all slow and I"m like "HS Prism Concert on the 10th... WHA????" Prism was always on a Thursday. Turns out they switched to Wednesdays and also split up the Middle School and High School into separate nights. So I got to stay for my Christmas Concert! :-D And I was all made up and looking Excellent!
It took my Librarian, the Tech Director (Yearbook Staff Adviser), the Principal, and my Choral teacher, all Double Takes to realize who I was (even if Mr. Lu didn't remember my name...) Apparently I HAVE grown up and changed that much since HS. But I had a lot of fun. I was running around before the concert taking pictures everywhere. Eventually I'll feel like processing them. I got to sing Hallelujah :-D It was nice to be on those risers again. And Mr. W was all sentimental about seeing me back in my usual spot again too! :-D
It was a nice night :-) I felt very at peace with the world on my drive back home :-) I was at my HS Christmas Concert again :-) Also, Varsity Choral sang two songs I sang while I was in that Chorus. And I think both of them were my senior year...

Tenho um monte de esmaltes na fila, mas me deu vontade de repetir um, no caso um holográfico lindo.
Estava cansada de esmaltes escuros, são os que eu mais gosto, mas estava usando-os demais, e também não estava afim de nenhuma cor forte.
Então o eleito foi o FYI da coleção OMG da China Glaze, que toooodo mundo tá cansado de ver, mas não deixa de ser lindo.
Ah.. essa é a segunda vez que o uso, quando eu comprei faz bastante tempo e ngm quase tinha holo, e eu sem experiencia passei top coat, que tirou todo o efeito, dessa vez eu usei sem nada por cima, realmente parece outro esmalte, to amando.

This is a detail from a marvellous glass prism to be found in Salisbury Cathedral, UK. It is a memorial to the artist Rex Whistler (1905-44) who lived in the Cathedral Close and was designed and engraved as a gift to the Cathedral by his brother Laurence, who died in 2002.
It is set on a rotating plinth, and illuminated, which brings this intricate engraving to life. I recommend it you.
Amongst many pieces, Rex Whistler painted an amazing 58ft wide panorama – which is on view at the National Trust’s Plas Newydd, Anglesey, North Wales, UK – and has to be seen to be believed!
Laurence Whistler also designed and engraved a beautiful window dedicated to English music in St James Church, Ashmansworth, UK, where one of my musical heros, Gerald Finzi (1901-56), is buried. I had the pleasure of seeing this a few years ago, combined with, by chance, the thrill of a brief chat with some of the Finzi family. Musical memories that I will treasure.

But if you need something stolen, Prism's the man for the job. His abilities include a basic version of light manipulation where he can absorb light, and use it later on. He can't create light, he can only redirect light that he's absorbed.
Status: Alive, and well.
