Some women in Mycenaean society were powerful religious officials and enjoyed a certain amount of autonomy. This tablet concerns a legal dispute between Eritha (e-ri-ta), chief priestess of the Sphagianes cult precinct, and the local community over the tax status of property belonging to the deity worshipped there.
Named on another tablet is the female landowner Karpathia, who held the keys to the sanctuary and its treasury. It has raised questions among modern scholars about the economic role of sanctuaries and of local communities during the palatial period. It also provides valuable insights concerning the role of women as members of the Mycenaean elite.
On the first day of the 1939 excavation in search of Pylos, archaeologists found clay tablets with Linear B inscriptions that identified the ancient site's long-sought location. Thirteen years later, scholars cracked the code, deciphering the script as the earliest written form of the Greek language.
More than a thousand rectangular and leaf-shaped tablets from Pylos register the economic, bureaucratic, and religious activities of the Palace of Nestor and the districts in its orbit. Lists of commodities, land surveys, and over seven hundred named individuals-including bronzesmiths, shepherds, soldiers, textile workers, and possibly enslaved foreigners— document the workings of a Mycenaean state. Fortuitously, the fire that burned down the palace baked the inscribed clay, preserving these valuable records for posterity.
Linear B script, used for writing in Mycenaean Greek, consists of roughly two hundred signs. Syllabograms represent sounds as syllables, while logograms symbolize things.

In Shinto, a miko (巫女) is a shrine maiden or a supplementary priestess. Miko were once likely seen as a shaman but are understood in modern Japanese culture to be an institutionalized role in daily shrine life, trained to perform tasks, ranging from sacred cleansing to performing the sacred Kagura dance. The traditional attire of a miko would be a pair of red hakama (緋袴 or "scarlet or vermilion, long, divided trousers or a long, slightly pleated skirt tied with a bow"), a white kosode (kimono robe), and some white or red hair ribbons. In Shintoism, the color white symbolizes purity. The garment put over the kosode during Kagura dances is called a chihaya (千早).
With the arrival of Daenaera Targaryen to Driftmark, there would be a lot to process and for her to get ready. The Game requires everything after all.
Her first visit? With a Septon who acted on sentry duty
New look and new use of editing on this. My thanks to the model. One of the best people I've had the pleasure of both RP and interacting with.

This was based off of John Collier’s “Priestess of Delphi” painting: i.imgur.com/QTO0y.jpg I've been wanting to recreate it for a long time. The incense smoke didn't cooperate because I live in Kansas, which means it was pretty windy.
Rachel is a priestess in training. A large group had been headed up Glastonbury Tor on my way down. As I saw her face, I thought that Rachel would make a great subject for my strangers project. I turned and followed the party up the hill.
As she reached the top, Rachel place her bag on the ground a few meters from St Michael’s tower and did the kinds of things that priestesses in training do. Some of the young women sat and meditated, some stood with raised hands. Eventually the group gathered inside the tower. In a circle, hand in hand, they joined in song.
In the meantime, I sat in the sunshine, where I could see Rachel’s bag and waited for her return. After some time the gathering ended and a few of the members photographed each other with their phones or cameras. I took this as my cue to approach Rachel.
We have many visitors from Spain and I had imagined that Rachel was Spanish because of her skin tone. As I made my request to photograph her, I tried not to rush too much. To give her a chance to understand my words. When I asked if Rachel had come from far, wondering if she had understood anything that I had said, she told me “California”!
I asked Rachel if she would sit on the grass while I took the photo. She agreed. Just after we sat down the clouds moved and we were in bright midday sun, with harsh shadows. Rachel was a good sport and when I suggested that we might move into the shadow of the tower, she happily walked with me and sat down again.
After we had made a few portraits with my camera, Rachel asked if I would take a picture with her phone. Of course I was happy to do this. The wider shot with Rachel’s phone looked good. I had my smaller camera with me. It had a wider lens on it. As I took it out of my bag, Rachel told me that her group were leaving. Even so she was content to let me take another shot before we exchanged our goodbyes and words of thanks.
Thank you Rachel for being part of my project. It was great to meet you today.

From the very fun collab with Jessie a few back that had the faerie wing images. Those of you who follow me on Instagram may have caught stories with earlier versions of this as I fiddled my way along. Jessie had an inspiration image from a painting that involved the main subject dressed in sheers on wide staircases, and so we were playing with that concept. In editing this one I started to envision a priestess in a temple with these contrasting forces that are eating into the edges of the scene, though without going so far as to have the disintegration disrupt our central heroine as she ascends to face whatever duties and trials are before her.

Portrait statue of a priestess (?), so-called Poppaea Sabina, from Olympia Heraion.
The high quality of its workmanship and heroic size originally prompted a tentative identification with Poppaea Sabina, second wife of the emperor Nero. This identification is now rejected. Poppaea’s images suffered the “Damnatio Memoriae”, i.e., a similar fate to the sculptures of her husband, and as a result, securely identified sculptural representations of the empress are completely lacking.
Poppaea was married initially to Rufius Crispinus and then to the future emperor Marcus Salvius Otho. While still married to Otho, Poppaea became Nero’s mistress, sometime in A.D. 58. Nero and Poppaea were finally married in A.D. 62, only twelve days after Nero’s divorce from Claudia Octavia. At that time Poppaea was awarded the title of Augusta. She bore Nero one child, Claudia Augusta, who died in infancy. Poppaea’s death in 65 was rumored to have been caused by a miscarriage induced when Nero kicked her in the stomach.

Dedicated to all the victims of Hurricane Harvey. It has been a stressful 4 days in Houston as we have experienced unprecedented flooding in SE Texas. I was fortunate enough to be living in higher elevations so I was not affected by this hurricane, but many people have lost their lives and properties due to this. I would like to salute to all the people, law enforcement as well as common folks for helping and showing compassion to all the victims during this trying time.
Sometimes mother nature gives, but sometimes she can also take them away. We just have to have faith and rebuild stronger! God Bless!
Have a pleasant Thursday and the rest of the week dear friends!

Striding through the great Urtican temples and out across the wastelands through settlements near and far.
She spreads the word of the great awakening and sings the songs of the defeat of Orcinius. All the while recounting the great cost to both Urtican and Phocidite alike.
Now and since the threat of man has loomed large, but a new mightier foe has risen. The Elken are fierce warriors of the North and unlike the frail humans, they have no fear of winters icy embrace.
Though the struggle is great and fearsome, we live on...

Atiqtalik is an Utrican Priestess she carries a blade forged from the tears of Narwhal sea witches. Her shield is the spell screamer which swallows spells whole and spews them back at their caster.
She seeks battle with the greatest champions of the north. Not the strongest or fiercest of the Utrican, perhaps though the bravest.

After struggling so much to place the mag on the Priest, and finally ending with a weird top fed mag design, I had posted it to the group.... and then I suddenly realized just how easy it would be to fit a standard magwell into the design.
The Priestess AVR (Assault Variant Rifle) is the standard layout variant to the top fed Priest Battle Rifle.
Almost identical in every other aspect, sorry about that. If I ever decide to do another variant, I'll make sure to add plenty of features to make it different enough so that I'm not just uploading *almost* identical rifles.
(What do you guys think, should I put this in the main group? or is this too similar to the Priest that it would be redundant?)
Comments and notes are very welcome, let me know which version you like best!
