Today's story and sketch "by me", Pat and I are guest judges for the Grumpas three day Halloween festival here in the sunny Mojave Valley, I started on a walk early this morning because today's temperature has already reached the one hundred forty degree range, but it is a dry heat for October. Tonight is the big night every one has been excited about, the best scary costumes, and the midnight pumpkin moon pie cooking competition, Pat and I will be judging both. As I am walking through the haunted pumpkin patch I just spotted two of what will surely be two of tonight's favorite costumes, above I recognize Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Galaxy wearing a Beaked Beast costume riding an experimental intergalactic dimension jumping plutonium broom, and in the lower right I recognize Reha Grumpases wife, Ritta in a sexy Grumpas High Priestess outfit talking to one of the Grumpas children who was practicing driving her dad's fifty Chevy pick up, she just parked, not actually parked but stopped when she hit the spirit tree. Don't even ask how I came up with this one! LOL. The High Priestess is from a painting circa 1920 "Woman with Raised Arms" by Charles Hawthorne. The Roman temple is a rare example of Graeco-Italian architecture of the Republican era having been built about 100 BC.
She's got that wild woman, earth goddess, warrior, priestess, honor life, and respect nature vibe about her.

The "Holy Lady of the Fray" or, War Priestess, is a unit under the Medical division. Skilled in healing, both through traditional and supernatural means, these Holy Ladies of the Fray speak peacefully, walk softly, and carry double-headed war mallets.
Armed and armored, while the War Priestess will not attack in order to defend herself, she will exercise much violence in order to defend those around her.
At the Holy Lady Citadels these militant maidens of mercy undergo rigorous training in both the arts of healing and injuring.
In battle, the cry of the injured, "Holy Lady! Holy Lady!" is a beacon that draws these fearless females. They give neither aid nor comfort to enemy combatants, so the War Priestess is an entirely all-or-nothing presence on the battlefield. She is either 100% an ally of the greatest sort, or 100% an enemy who will work tirelessly within her parameters to ensure your fall.

Prior to this shoot, I didn't think I'd get spooked, as I didn't think I was scared of snakes/spiders. But up close and personal, I was on edge, shall we say, for that shoot. I definitely did not want to hold one of Ellie's pets.
Perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness and still become something beautiful.
