Nefertiti, a high priestess in ancient Egypt, was quite fond of her pet cobra, Hiss-o-tep. He was a magnificent creature, his scales gleaming in the sunlight, his eyes holding a mysterious wisdom. However, Nefertiti had a peculiar request: she wanted Hiss-o-tep to give her a kiss.
"Hiss-o-tep, my darling," she would coo, stroking his hood gently, "wouldn't it be lovely if you were to give me a little kiss? Just a peck on my cheek."
Hiss-o-tep, however, was not a particularly affectionate cobra. He preferred to bask in the sun, slither around the temple, and occasionally strike at unsuspecting rodents. The idea of kissing a human was utterly foreign to him.
Nefertiti tried every trick in the book. She offered him the juiciest mice, the sweetest honey, and even a shiny new scarab amulet. But Hiss-o-tep was unmoved. He would simply hiss and raise his hood, a clear indication that he was not interested in any form of affection.
One day, Nefertiti decided to take a more drastic approach. She fashioned a tiny, golden crown and placed it on Hiss-o-tep's head. "There," she declared, "now you are the king of all cobras. And as the king, it is your duty to bestow a kiss upon your loyal subject."
Hiss-o-tep, however, was not impressed by his new title. He simply flicked the crown off with his tail and slithered away.
Nefertiti sighed. It seemed that her dream of a cobra kiss would remain just that - a dream. But as she watched Hiss-o-tep slithering through the temple, she realized that perhaps it was better this way. After all, a cobra kiss was probably not as pleasant as she had imagined. And besides, she had always thought that Hiss-o-tep was much more impressive when he was hissing and striking.

Medea was the daughter of Aeetes, who ruled the remote kingdom of Colchis. A descendant of the gods and a priestess of Hecate, Medea was a powerful witch and magician herself. She fell in love with Jason when he came to Colchis with the Argonauts to steal the Golden Fleece from her father. In fact, Medea was so in love that she betrayed her family and abandoned her homeland, helping Jason steal the Golden Fleece and then running away with him to Greece.
Though she was highly devoted, Medea could also be dangerous and overbearing. She went to extreme lengths to help Jason, killing her own brother and later brutally murdering Jason’s uncle Pelias for stealing Jason’s throne. Despite all this, Jason eventually left Medea to marry another woman. Medea used her skills to take revenge on Jason, then journeyed to Athens to marry King Aegeus. But Aegeus soon tired of her as well, and Medea once again had to flee. According to some traditions, she ended up settling somewhere in the steppes of Asia.

If you had an expensive car in the 30s, and wanted to also flaunt your good taste, you might approach France's premier glass sculptor Lalique, and choose a mascot for your radiator that emphasizes both your wealth and taste. If you also wanted to take it to the next level, you would have it wired so that you can light it internally, at night. Most place Chrysis, the high priest of Hera's Temple in Argos, Greese, as the most striking of Laliques creations.
Though you can still purchase some of his 30s designs today, to purchase a genuine mascot with provenance from a....oh....Hispano Suiza limo, it would cost you what you paid for your last car.
Chrysis was one of the last of the high priestess' from the Temple of Hera, the Sister and Wife of Zeus (no cracks now) and the Mother of the Gods of Mt. Olympus. Argos was in the Peloponnese peninsula not too far from Sparta. Further backstory would fill the library....but it is wonderfully interesting. This is a variation on an image I posted several years ago.

The fountain of Paionian priestess is situated on the Eye (History) bridge in Skopje. Paionians were a Thracian tribe that lived on Macedonian territory in 400-300BC. They had their own culture, architecture and religion which was assimilated in hellenistic period. The most known excavation site is Byla Zora about 80km from Skopje.
