Ceratopetalum is a genus of nine species of shrub and tree in the family Cunoniaceae. They are found along the eastern coast of Australia and extend north to New Guinea. Two Australian species are among the best known, one being C. apetalum or coachwood, renowned as a timber tree, and C. gummiferum, the New South Wales Christmas bush. A cladistic analysis of morphology shows that the NSW Christmas bush (C. gummiferum) and coachwood (C. apetalum) are the oldest two offshoots from the lineage that gave rise to the rest of the genus. These species are found in rainforest of southeastern Australia east of the Great Dividing Range. 48439
Taraxacum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as dandelions. The genus is native to Eurasia and North America, but the two commonplace species worldwide. Like other members of the family Asteraceae, they have very small flowers collected together into a composite flower head. Each single flower in a head is called a floret. In part due to their abundance along with being a generalist species, dandelions are one of the most vital early spring nectar sources for a wide host of pollinators. Many Taraxacum species produce seeds asexually by apomixis, where the seeds are produced without pollination, resulting in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent plant. 17473

A few weeks back I took this shot of the Yellow-rumped Warbler enjoying the warm Autumn weather. Now not only are they gone but most of the leaves had fallen too.
Plumbago is a genus of 10–20 species of flowering plants in the family Plumbaginaceae, native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the world. Common names include plumbago and leadwort (names which are also shared by the genus Ceratostigma). The species include herbaceous plants and shrubs growing to 0.5–2 m tall. The leaves are spirally arranged, simple, entire, 0.5–12 cm long, with a tapered base and often with a hairy margin. The flowers are white, blue, purple, red, or pink, with a tubular corolla with five petal-like lobes; they are produced in racemes. The flower calyx has glandular trichomes (hairs), which secrete a sticky mucilage that is capable of trapping and killing insects; it is unclear what the purpose of these trichomes is; protection from pollination by way of crawlers (ants and other insects that typically do not transfer pollen between individual plants), or possible protocarnivory. z2 387

canal. Hurricane Dorian removed the sand dunes and formed
an auxiliary channel parallel to the harbor inlet. It’s
dangerously close to the back doors of the homes along
here, though...

in dappled light. You can see a third cub behind the two looking at me. These were the most beautiful cubs I saw on this trip. They are first year cubs and so healthy looking. Mom was taking very good care of them. Notice how much bigger they are than the previous triplets I have posted so far.
The cub population there was good this trip. I saw 3 moms that each had 3 cubs. Two moms with first year triplets and one mom with second year triplets. Always happy to see that. Then of course numerous moms with one or two cubs and several large boars.

Narcissus is a genus of predominantly spring flowering perennial plants of the amaryllis family, Amaryllidaceae. Various common names including daffodil, narcissus and jonquil are used to describe all or some members of the genus. The species are native to meadows and woods in southern Europe and North Africa with a centre of diversity in the Western Mediterranean, particularly the Iberian peninsula. They are predominantly spring perennial plants. They have conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white or yellow or orange or pink, with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona. 36896
Steller’s Jay is British Columbia’s provincial bird. It ranges from Alaska to Central America and is the western equivalent to its eastern cousin the Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata). These jays have been reported as far east as San Antonio, Texas. Like its larger relatives the crows and ravens, the Steller’s Jay readily adapted to urban environments. Its most apparent call is the raspy Shiak! Shiak! Shiak!
Steller's Jays have the ability to mimic the calls of other animals such as dogs and chickens. They are known to use this talent to scare other birds from feeders by imitating the calls of raptors such as the Red-Tailed Hawk. They also often mimic raptor calls to deter other jays from intruding on their territory.
Michigan wetlands have changed considerably since the invasion of two attractive invasive species: Phragmites, a tall reed; and, this pretty, purplish bloomer, Purple Loosestrife.
Purple Loosestrife is a hardy plant that grows quickly to as much as 4 feet (1.2m) tall, and spreads quickly.
Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, or trees (family Nyctaginaceae). The inflorescence consists of large colourful sepallike bracts which surround three simple waxy flowers. It is native to South America from Brazil west to Peru and south to southern Argentina. The vine species grow anywhere from 1 to 12 m tall, scrambling over other plants with their spiky thorns. They are evergreen where rainfall occurs all year, or deciduous if there is a dry season. The leaves are alternate, simple ovate-acuminate, 4–13 cm long and 2–6 cm broad. The actual flower of the plant is small and generally white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six bracts with the bright colours associated with the plant, including pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. Bougainvillea glabra is sometimes referred to as paper flower because the bracts are thin and papery. The fruit is a narrow five-lobed achene. 35451
