Pink Ceiba, the flowers of the world's fastest growing tree! The inside of its trunk is so soft that it has 4 inch spikes to protect it from predators... giving it its nickname, Monkey Tree, because a agile monkey can climb it!

The Ceiba tree figures an important part in the mythologies of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures. Several Amazonian tribes of eastern Peru believe deities live in Ceiba tree species throughout the jungle. The Maya civilization believed that Yaaxché, often depicted as a Ceiba trunk, connects the planes of the Underworld (Xibalba), the terrestrial realm and the skies. Unmistakable clusters of thick conical thorns on the Ceiba trunk were reproduced during the Classical Period on ceramic burial urns and incense holders by the southern lowland Maya.

Modern Maya still respectfully leave the tree standing when harvesting forest timber. The Ceiba tree is represented by a cross and serves as an important architectural motif in the Temple of the Cross Complex at Palenque.

Ceiba pentandra produces a light and strong fiber (kapok) used throughout history to fill life preservers, mattresses, pillows, tapestries, and dolls. Kapok has recently been replaced in commercial use by synthetic fibers. The oils of Ceiba seeds are extracted to make soap and fertilizers. The Ceiba continues to be commercialized in Asia especially in Java, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines.

"Like this olive tree sculpted by time and the elements, I draw my strength from my deep roots, resisting storms with grace. Every mark on my trunk tells a story, every leaf is a hope turned towards the future."

After a long absence due to a serious accident and intensive rehabilitation, I'm finally returning to photography. My photos are now watermarked, as I discovered that some had been circulating on social media without my permission.

The watermark is therefore a way to preserve the integrity of my creations, while maintaining their poetic quality.

In her artistic practice, Sophie Le Grand looks at issues related to ecology, climate issues and overconsumption.

While this garden underlines the urgency of meeting environmental challenges, it certainly does not foster a catastrophic approach, and, on the contrary, wishes to reveal the role and involvement of everyone on a daily basis to preserve natural balances.

The interior of a Greek Orthodox Church in Athens Greece.

The Eastern Orthodox Church is the second largest single Christian communion in the world. It is considered by its adherents to be the very same Church established by Christ and his Apostles. It is composed of numerous theologically unified autocephalous ecclesial bodies, each shepherded by a synod of independent bishops whose duty, among other things, is to preserve and teach the Apostolic and Patristic traditions and related Church practices. All Orthodox bishops trace their lineage back to one of the twelve Apostles through the process of apostolic succession.

Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that the Orthodox Church is the authentic and original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. As such, the Eastern Orthodox Church views its role as the preserver of the teachings and traditions given to the Early Christians by the Apostles nearly 2,000 years ago and the developer of conciliar interpretations which expand and illuminate the original teachings.

I had a hard time finding a local who could identify this tree for me. One Ilocano told me she thought the name for it is Salaysay. Whatever the name, its a great shade tree to sit under while listening to the waves roll over the tiny, smooth rocks that make up the beach in Padugpug, (north coast of Luzon Island), Ilocos, Phiiippines.

Lord Shiva is one of the principal deities in Hinduism, revered as the "Destroyer" in the holy trinity, or Trimurti, which also includes Brahma (the Creator) and Vishnu (the Preserver). Shiva is a complex and multifaceted god, embodying both ascetic and householder aspects. He is often depicted with a third eye, a crescent moon on his head, and a snake wrapped around his neck. His primary consort is Parvati, and together they have two sons, Ganesha and Kartikeya.

Some key aspects of Lord Shiva include:

The Destroyer and Transformer: While he is known as the destroyer, his role is to remove the old and make way for transformation and new creation.

Meditation and Asceticism: Shiva is often shown in deep meditation, symbolizing detachment and spiritual wisdom.

Lord of Dance (Nataraja): One of the most famous representations of Shiva is as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer, who is believed to represent the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction.

Symbols:

Trident (Trishul): Represents the three forces of creation, preservation, and destruction.

Damaru (Drum): Symbolizes the cosmic sound and rhythm of the universe.

Ganga: The river goddess Ganga, which flows from his matted hair, signifies purity and divine flow.

Blue Throat: This is due to the legend where Shiva drank the poison during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) to protect the world.

A narrow boat at the Gas Street basin in Birmingham. From 1795 to 1815, this was a transhipment point between Birmingham Canal Navigations and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. Today, the canal area is a place for enjoyment rather than work.

My mind has been all over the place with images which have appeared to me in this very old tree trunk which I photographed in a nearby park. From torah finials to Vishnu avatars . . . the symbolism and metaphors have grabbed me deeply, especially during this horrendous, unsettling political time . . .

From LOTUS SCULPTURE I quote:

"Vishnu is one of the principal Hindu deities, worshiped as the protector and preserver of the world and restorer of dharma (moral order). He is known chiefly through his avatars (incarnations), particularly Rama, Krishna and Buddha.

In theory, Vishnu manifests a portion of himself anytime he is needed to fight evil, and his appearances are innumerable;

but in practice, ten incarnations are most commonly recognized."

INDONESIEN, Java, hinduistische Tempelanlage Prambanan

Prambanan or Rara Jonggrang translit. Rara Jonggrang) is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Transformer (Shiva). The temple compound is located approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) northeast of the city of Yogyakarta on the boundary between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.[1]

The temple compound, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples. Prambanan attracts many visitors from around the world.

Small Rhino and Elephant or Mammoth? Helsinki, Finland.

A long haul! Farewell 2017! You started off with heartbreak. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get back on my feet after my BFF's sudden and unexpected departure from her earthly body. This project was a struggle and a blessing. Yes, there were days when I just couldn't pick up my camera. Joy was elusive on many days, especially in the early part of the year. I would not allow myself to quit this project. It would become my life preserver in what felt like an angry sea. As joy, acceptance and balance returned...so did my creativity...my desire to share love and hope and the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us...every day...every moment. I allowed myself to fill in the gaps in this project without the judgement of failure. It was Love that started this project. It was Love that healed this tender soul and it was Love that fed the passion and creativity that completed this project.

I thank each and every one of you who took the time to view, fave, comment and inspire me. Your generosity and love was/is a guiding light. I wish for you a healthy, joyous, magical and loving 2018!
