The building was originally the old Western Market (North Block), which was identified by Antiquities and Monuments Office as one Declared Monument in 1990. At present, it is the oldest market building surviving in Hong Kong. The former Land Development Corporation converted the market into a centre of traditional traders, arts and crafts in 1991 and renamed it as "the Western Market". The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) refurbished the Western Market again in 2003 and tried to bring it back to its useful economic life by adopting the so-called concept of adaptive-reuse...

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.

Welcome to Planet Frost
Our tour continues...
Planet Frost is also the home to the Federation Rover Preservation Society. This group of dedicated enthusiasts maintain a museum rovers dating back to the earliest days of the Federation. Every once in a while, you may see members of the FRPS taking one of these ancient rovers out for a spin. Evidently it is important to drive them to keep them in working order. Today, we are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a classic model 897 rocket launcher!

It is seen here parked on the turntable at Wansford.

The cosmic dance of Shiva symbolises the interplay of dynamic and static divine energy flow, containing the five principles of eternal energy — creation, preservation, destruction, illusion and emancipation. Shiva dances in ‘Rudra Tandava’ or the dance of destruction in an aureole of fire, creating wild thunder storms all around the universe, even shattering the Sun, the Moon and stellar bodies with his matted hair, marks of ash on the forehead, trident, drum, lifting his left leg and balancing over a demon of ignorance, with snakes crawling over his arms, legs, and braided hair that depict egotism. His upper right hand holds an hourglass drum or 'dumroo' standing for the male-female vital principle, while the lower gestures us to "Be fearless". A skull on his head depicts conquest over death. Goddess Ganga, epitomising the holy river, sits on his hairdo. His third eye represents omniscience, insight, and enlightenment.

2016 photochallenge wk 02 - Under the Bridge HDR
Maybe not as spectacular as some of the other entries this week, this one is all about the bridge rather than the view from it. Spanning the Chesterfield Canal in Staveley, Derbyshire, which was opened in 1777, I'm not sure if this old pack horse type bridge is actually that old.
It has certainly seen better days and is now supported by iron girders as much of the original wooden structure has rotted away.

WD 2-10-0 600 'Gordon' at Longmoor in August 1969.
One of the preservation story's that didn't work out. I seem to recall that there was a lot of opposition from very wealthy and powerful local residents wanting to keep their 'bit of heaven' to themselves. In any case only part of the line was on offer and this would have given a significant limit on developments. .
I would have been 14 when this was taken by an unknown photographer. Part of the Tom Derrington Collection.
Gordon can now be found in the Engine House at Highley on the SVR. I understand that it is a very hungry loco for coal and in this anti-smoking era would not be considered for restoration.
